Hello, I need help test my new freespace exe.
I just need people to take my exe and load it up have a quick look at the Hall graphics and tell me if its working right.
The exe is about 700 k rar'ed up.
Or 1 Meg as a zip file
Cards tested so far:
Member Card type OS Result
OUTSIDER Voodoo 3 win98 Works fine
OUTSIDER Geforce 2 2000 Works fine
Me Geforce 4 PNY 4600 XP Works fine
JBX-Phoenix Geforce 4 PNY XP Works fine
Please help.
-
So please send me an e-mail and get involved.
-
Come on people. This only takes a few minutes. How on earth are people meant to develope code if this comunity isnt willing to test it?
COME ON!
-
umm, you might need to wait more than 2 1/2 hours before getting panicky, a lot of people aren't on this board 24/7
-
I'd like to test your exe with my GeForce 3, as I have some problems with corrupted fonts and 'jumpy' anims in the main hall. Either e-mail or ICQ is fine with me.
-
is there anywhere i can dl it? i'll test it for ya
-
OK, for now its at http://www.ijbrooks.demon.co.uk/tom/XPGF4.rar
But its very important that regardless of whether it works or not you report:
Your graphics card name, type and any other info
Your operating system
What you are looking for is any defects in the display of the fonts and if the animation of the doors and stuff in the hallway bit changes size when you move your mouse over and away.
-
Just started it up for a second and it works perfectly. Fonts and animations are as they should be. I'm using a GeForce 3 and running WinXP Home. I say add it to the CSV.
-
Once I've had some more results from non geforce cards I will.
-
CVS that is :)

CVS, CSV, it's all the same to me. :)

Ah-hah. I thought this new code was only going to run on GeForce cards.
-
No. Thats possible but more complicated and less efficient. It has so far been tested on one non geforce: the voodoo 3, one of the most tempremental 3D cards there is. And it works on that so thats a good sign. If this solution fits all then we can leave it at that.
You see the problem developing for the PC is that there are so many different combinations: what OS, what graphics card, other hardware, other software that might interfere.
If this comunity is unwilling to test new code to destruction then bugs will end up in the CVS. Better they are found in the present when developers are focused on that task rather than later when you want to be playing with the newest cool feature rather than seeing error messages and the developer has moved on.
This is a very simple test within a well defined area. Not all testing will be so nice and simple. Only a few people can program but everyone can test.
So if you have any non geforce or old geforce graphics cards then get testing!
-
 what is it that you're asking people to test?
BTW: Source code = nice  Binary files = not so nice...
-
Checkout the 'Geforce 4 bug and bump mapping and open source? ' for the source.
And all the rest of the info you need is in this thread:
'What you are looking for is any defects in the display of the fonts and if the animation of the doors and stuff in the hallway bit changes size when you move your mouse over and away.'
Sounds trivial but its not when its your freespace 2 looking like crap.

that would be this one:

nVidia TNT2 M64
Windows 2000
Main hall worked fine

I'd like to add that I was having the text/animations problem too, but your new .exe has fixed this.
My video card is a GeForce 4 4200 ti and I'm using Windows XP, also.
