Title: Introducing the GTF Claymore
Post by: aldo_14 on July 08, 2001, 12:13:00 pm
Following the rebuilding of the fleet by Khonsu III, the Hans-Ronald Corp. was asked to design a replacement for the GTF Loki - the GTF Claymore was the result.  Claymores have been mass-manufactured across the GTVA fleet, for both interceptor and recon roles.  In many cases the Claymore is preferred to the Pegasus for recon, due to it's better armour and shielding - and also its reduced manufacturing costs. Pilots love the speed and maneuverability of the Claymore, but hate it's poor primary loadout and flimsy hull. Claymores are also widely used by the SPC.

I like this a lot  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

It's the replacement for the Loki (as above), 3 primary guns (see front view) and 1 secondary slot.  Fast, but weak.  Should be fun  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/wink.gif)

C'mon people... that AWAC tile is way too light...  The model is great, but it needs to be a wee bit darker IMO

Whoa... That model is top quality, and the texturing is tops - I think the brightness level is just right, actually.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Excellent work!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

Hmm... now that I think of it, i might rename it the GTF Mako.

I think this is the best one I've made so far.

I dunno, if you're going to name it after a weapon shouldn't it be something light and fast instead of something huge and heavy like a claymore? You could call it the Dirk or the Rapier or Cutlass or something. =) It looks like it has six guns, not three?

Artistic licence  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif) .  Also, my first working attempt at a fighter was called the Claymore, so I wanted to make a fitting replacement.  Still have the original knocking about somewhere.

Extrude the guns to give them real barrels.  The little boxes you have don't look big enough, imo.

That was top of my list, but I need to keep the poly count under 500, natch.

And i can't really be bothered retexturing, especially as I've finished all the pof, anis etc and I just need to test.

I've added another 3 firepoints to make it vaguely effective when it's missile banks are depleted.

Speaking of which....

the model is now released and can be downloaded from either; http://uk.geocities.com/gunnery_control/downloads.html ("http://uk.geocities.com/gunnery_control/downloads.html")
or http://uk.geocities.com/gunnery_control/terran_ships.html ("http://uk.geocities.com/gunnery_control/terran_ships.html")

Test screens;

It's not though - it still gets minced by a wing of Manticore.  In fact, you'd have to be pretty nuts to fly it against a cruiser without using trebuchets.

Besides which, my campaign is set 20 years in the future, so there have been some advances in weapons & reactor technology, no?

well, it was;

8x GTf Claymore (inc Me  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/tongue.gif) )
4x GTsB Scimitar (stealth - called int to attack the Cain)

Vs

16x SF Manticore
1x SC Cain

And it's a heavy scout / light interceptor, so it does do some proper fighting.
