Well, there're a fair few Brits here, and I assume there're people from other Commonwealth Games nations. Of course, it probably doesn't matter how much you support, as, well, Australia's gonna win anyway :).
The opening ceremony was pretty sweet, even if we did get a chopped up version over here (did anyone actually go?) The informality was a bonus, as our athlete's got the chance to get up and dance :).
Anyway, we've already won one gold (1m springboard diving) so I guess that's gonna set the precedent, yes? :)

Go Scotland!!
We have a single synchronised swimmer. honest . A solo synchornised swimming.
But at least we've got a good chance of a medal in the bowls or ping-pong.
-
I think that, as soon as someone says "Aussie" more than once consecutively, the rest of the world groans something along the lines of "oh bother, not again..."
Things felt rather quiet on the Commonwealth games front, despite the TV networks trying to bolster support. Maybe it's the Manchester weather rubbing off everywhere else. Having said that, I quite enjoyed the opening ceremony, except for those teeny bopper singers and stuff. And that problem with Channel 7 going right off the air for a good 3/4hr.
There was more stuff I was going to say, but senility's really hit me lately...

:D Clean Sweep in the Road Cycling Time Trials, and Gold in the women's team gymnastics, plus probably a few others which I can't be sure of yet (Women's heptathlon, Women's 3m diving, a few shooting comps etc.) :D

Canada is gonna win at Hockey.....

Not if Brazil gets in their way.

If Brazil gets in the way Canada will just knock them over and contimue on...

We'll see.
It's called sarcasm, and I'm not good at it.

Until they hit our team, and then get whooped :).
Did anyone see the Australia vs. NZ mens score last night? I know it was Australia 4 - NZ 0 at half time.
-
1-2-3 in the women's marathon, plus bronze in the men's (what a finish that was). Gold and silver in the heptathlon, 3 gold from the women divers. More medals from the men's and women's shooting events. That medal count is climbing, and the swimming hasn't even started :D
-
Yeah, Australia's medal count will die after the swimming. They suck at track and field.
-
You're right I guess... we're fairly diverse, and we have a few good Track and Fielders, but we aren't great. Looks like we'll win the walking though... I'm just watching it now :) We're on top of the medal count ATM and I think we'll stay there :D

I'm gonna take that as tongue in cheek, but I really dislike people calling Australia just the rubbish from Bitain. Admittedly, Australia as a nation was founded by Britain, but british rule ceased in 1901, and sending convicts here...well that ceased over 150 years ago, and in that time we've advanced amazingly further than the British have in practically every field. Also, half or more of Australias population is entirely undescended from Britain, and have immigrated here. We have Australian citizens from all but a handful of the worlds nations, and this ethnic diversity and multiculturalism was the major contributing factor to Australia's growth. My own paternal Grandfather was German, our neighbours are Maltese, there're some singaporeans up the road a little at least a third of the people at my school have european names, etc. etc, and that's just in my little rural town. I's a lot more prevalent in the cities. Even Setekh is Chinese Australian (I think - sorry if I got that one wrong).
And as for us stealing the medals, it's nothing more that the direct result of our superior sporting program. The AIS is less than 30 years old, and yet it's one of the most highly respected sporting institutions the world over. That combined with the active, outdoorsy, sporting lifestyle which is the norm in Australia, and it's not hard to see why we produce so many fine athletes.
You just wait for the next Commonwealth Games - when we're the home team it'll be Australian Clean sweeps in every event :D. Unfortunately, I'll be thousands of Kilometers away...again :(. Come to Perth!!!
