Yah, there does seem to be a slight resemblance- wings, tails, and a long nose.

Sortof old-school fighter design, but I like it. There aren't really any of this style in FS2, and I wanted something that looked like a traditional light/fast fighter.

I made the angel for I don't remember who... but I'm still waiting for Styxx to convert it with working thruster flames (subobjects doesn't like me, whatever I do   (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) )
Ps: the angel is mentionned in FS1, it's the scout ship from which the Valkyrie is derivated

I made the above ship by welding vertices from this one... ( and yes, I made that pyro from scratch, that's why it may not look perfect)

Well, I'm going to keep trying to texture it, but it's going to be slow and painful. If anyone with some skill and the right tools wants to give it a shot, please download it and try it out. I've put it in both COB and 3DS form in the zip, which can be downloaded here:

Good news: I got it into the game!

Bad news: Because of the massive downscaling I had to do, some of the gaps between elements were eliminated- helloooooo clipping problems!  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/frown.gif) That, and using UVMapper split my ship into lots of little chunks. So my polycount jumped to about 500.
Oh yeah, the textures looked as low-res as I had feared. Oh yeah- and the center was at the very rear of the ship.

Good news: With luck, though, I'll have access to a copy of MAX soon, and I'll be able to fix the clipping, retexture using a REAL mapping utility, and recenter the ship. And I will make those textures a bit more interesting...

Alright, enough talking about my stuff...I need some help now.

How do you get the thrusters to work? Right now, in COB object Detail0, I have three objects- Hull, Thruster01, and Thruster02. The model shows up in Modelview just fine, thrusters included, but they don't show up in the game. I've got glows just fine, but the thruster models themselves don't show up- what do I need to do?

One more thing- it's true. You really SHOULD make it out of one subobject- now I have to do Boolean followed by manual poly deletion...whoop de doo.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/rolleyes.gif)

Nevermind... not even Boolean can save this thing. I'd have to do a complete remodel, using extrusion techniques, and the version of 3ds I have makes that virtually impossible.  (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/mad.gif)

Well, I rebuilt large chunks of the model, it is now TRULY made out of one subobject, I hope FS2 likes it this time. I've started texture work on it- it's going kind of slowly and painfully, despite MAX's excellent unwrap features. But, I felt like posting what I have so far- I think the textures need a bit more livening up, but I'm not sure exactly how. Grpahics are a mixed bag - the textures are pretty average, but you can see the pilots talking thorugh the cockpits.  It's just damn good fun, though.

Not really... the same thing alike is that both ships have a long nose, that's about all...
