Title: Getting the kill on a Corvette or above with a fighter
Post by: Valrog on June 23, 2015, 09:45:25 am
I understand that you can't damage a capital ship above Cruiser class after its hull integrity reaches 10% with a fighter (unless you're using the Maxim).

However... What if you bring it down from 100% to 10% and the last 10% damage is dealt by another ship? I.e., you deal 90% of the damage with your fighter. Would you get the kill?

The short version is: you can totally get the kill, even on something as big as a Sathanas.

The long version is: in stock FreeSpace 2, beam damage doesn't count towards claiming a kill. So if a warship is being beeeeeeeeeeeeeeemd all you have to do is tap it with your primaries or drop a few bombs on it, and you'll get the kill. As long as you do more non-beam damage than anything else, it's yours.

So, in "High Noon", you can get the Sathanas kill by ordering your wingmen to jump out or protect the Colossus, then just plug away until the Colly takes it out and TADA... a Sath kill!

As long as you do more non-beam damage than anything else, it's yours.

Slight correction: You need to do more non-beam damage than anything else and you need to do at least 30% of the total non-beam damage.

Or whatever percentage the AI profile (http://hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Ai_profiles.tbl#.24Percentage_Required_For_Kill_Scale:) specifies.
