...What file formats the new FS will use? I lost track a while back, and know the movie type is still being debated, but I'd like to know if we're sticking to POFs or including something for .3ds files, etc. If I know and can work toward it now, I can have a whole new pack of models for the higher-poly FS ready by the time the thing comes out.

To completely derail this thread, I think we should add JPEG support.
-
I think we are staying with pof's for the foreseeable future.
-
adding format support would be okay but replacing the pofs would be a nightmare. you can guess why :D
adding chunks to the pofs would be the best way in my opinion. :)
-
Or the POF file format limitations will simply be bumped or removed.
Just Until we enter the realm of programming in, REAL animated models, for Hangar bays(actually moving something), (weapons bay doors->repair drones->which could already be done with controlled Rotation), and so on.
Which btw, look at the Fenris or Leviathan cruisers escorting the colossus in the intro movie, now note how theire radar dishes spins.
3d max amateurs ;)

What about turrets that elevate as well as rotating?
-
what do they, rotate and stop, rotate and stop...
you can do that already
-
current turrets look like they just magically snap to face their target, do they actually rotate?

Oh dear. I guess there was always too much going on for me to notice that. :)
