Title: wx Launcher issue
Post by: Makhpella on July 12, 2015, 12:33:06 pm
Hello. I hit a bit of a problem with the launcher. I discovered 2-3 days ago that the laptop I had been playing FreeSpace on had 2 GPUs. I had been playing on the Inte(l)grated one, and some missions would crash, others wouldn't load, anyway, that's not the problem. The problem appeared after I set one exe (3.7.2) to launch using the Nvidia card (740m). Whether I use that exe, or another I have not set to launch using Nvidia, I get the same error. The game doesn't launch at all, I only get this message under the 'Help' button.

Unhandled error in setting HKLM key in registry! Access is denied.

I tried reinstalling the launcher, did not work. Do you fine people have other ideas?

Try running the Launcher as an administrator.

...That did it. I had actually disabled running as admin because of the screen dimming and always having to click yes. Ah, a small price to pay for enjoying this masterpiece. Thank you. (and yes, I know you can change the notifications' settings)

You should only have to run the launcher as admin once (to set the registry settings).  After that, I think you can do without.  Try and see.  Of course, on a new install, you'll have to run as admin once again.
