Title: Red five standing by, with some questions
Post by: Flare on August 06, 2015, 11:15:50 am
Hi guys!

I am an avid flight and space sim fan (am active at ATAG, an IL2 Cliffs of Dover community), and have been looking at this game. I understand that it is from 1999 and there is a modern update (FreeSpace Open) that makes it look good. However I am looking to mainly play mods of the game such as the Star Wars OT conversion (and the BSG mod that I found on YouTube) to replace the aging X-Wing alliance in my game library. My question is: is it worth it? I want a new space sim to live out battles from my favourite SciFi universes, and maybe discover some new ones. I want a sim with good flight and damage models and good mission design. Is there a good mission editor? I noticed that there are no cockpit 3D models in the vanilla game. Are there mods that add cockpits? Anyways I want to know if this old gem is worth the ten bucks. (I'm thinking it is)

Thanks!

Fly safe up there,

Flare

Diaspora is free, so why not just give it a shot?

The base game is one of the greatest space sims ever made, and the incredible mission editor and mod tools mean you have more content available than you'll ever play in your life. It's much more like XWA than a true sim, but it's definitely worth ten bucks.

Let us know if you need any help getting set up.
