Title: Axem's Station Textured
Post by: Black Wolf on September 03, 2015, 10:58:23 am
So Axem sent me this the other day:

I liked it, so I did this:

Still needs work: LoDs, debris, a few turrets, dockpoints and destroyable submodels, and some tweaks to the UV map. But realistically, all of those things are pretty straightforward. Expect a release soon. :)

Yessssssss....

It was meant to be a listening post or subspace radar station or comms relay or anything that requires large dish-like things. (Make sure you make the arms and dishes separate subobjects so clever FREDders can rotate them ;))

Nifty. Is the hole the same size as Arcadia's? I can see it working with Arcadia extensions if so.

Oooooh .... this is gonna make a fine GTI *redacted* for OSaM; Glad that it will take me some time to get to that point in the story

Nah, it's smaller, probably 80% or so the size of the Arcadia hole. It's important for my purposes that the station stay fairly small, but once it's released, it'd be a simple matter to resize it in PCS2.

Have added some singlepart turrets, a dockpoint (probably needs a second), and some submodels that are intended to connect it visually more closely to the HTL Arcadia model. I also want to add a couple of specific multipart turrets, which may take awhile (turrets are harder to do well than you might think). Pics soon (hopefully today).

Axem has offered to handle the off-axis rotation that he mentioned, which is good, because vector mathematics is not my strong suit. :)

I'm not expecting to have it finished before I have to go away to work, so odds are a release is at least a week or two away, unfortunately. But I'll try to keep people updated.

Niiiiiiiice! ;) It's good to have something for relay duty instead of the Faustus!

Totally cool, but uneven spacing between the arms is distracting. :p

So, progress has halted while I'm up at work. But the good news is before I left, I fixed a bunch of UV errors that you can probably see on the p3d model (the spot broad panel directly above the hole, for example, is flipped on that model), and I did LoDs 1, 2 and 3, and started the destroyed submodels. I still need to do debris, a few more destroyed sub-models (and possibly some live debris for those tanks) and integrate Axem's cool spinny stuff into the final, LoDded pof. Call it a few days work, starting from next Wednesday when I get home.

And then, release for all you fine FREDders to slot it into your campaigns. :)
