This behemoth (yet unnamed) is going to be the king of all bombers. I decided that it is now time for irregular, nonsymmetrical ships to become popular. That is why this ship has a strange shivanish taste to it.
Fighters beware. This beast has two turrets determined to wipe u out. Hower, the fighters has the least worry beacuse the capships will get a pummeling if something doesn't stop it. A wing of this should "easily" any light destroyer.
This bomber will need to polished up and textured. I am not qualified to texture it:(, so if anyone is interested e-mail or pm me. Also, as ShadowWolf has posted: the new campaign Combat Federation (where this and other ships will be featured) is in need of some texturers;7. If u are interested pm or e-mail him or me.
tell me what u think and give suggestions
-
Nice...:D Shivan-like!
-
Yeah, It's cool.:jaw:
My one issue is the cockpit area looks a little tacked on. Maybe if you incorperated the supports into the ship more organically, or if you built it into the body, it might look that much better. But that's just my thought. and Tiara, HE said it looked Shivanish:rolleyes:
Do you want to put it in my campaign www.valhalla.dreamstation.com (http://www.valhalla.dreamstation.com) . Provided we can texture it;)
Thor
-
The cockpit is tacked on. I said I needed a little polishing.
Also, if u can texture it..That's great:yes: I'll email u when it's finished. Also, would u be interested in texturing a few other ships for us (as in Combat Federation;7).
-
Good. One suugestion though: the nose/cockpit looks a bit too squared compared to the curvy overall.
-
Sorry if i misleaded you, but I don't do textures. I will help find some one if you let me use some of your ships in my campaign. I'm looking for an experimental/prototype terran cruiser. How would you like to join the staff of the ITHOV Campaign?
Thor
-
Don't know if anyone care to know this but the poly count is around 350 untrangulated and about 600 triangulated.
-
So what have we got now, two new models for the ComFed ready to be textured? very cool. I like that bomber.
-
Pimp ship, but agree with this
Good. One suugestion though: the nose/cockpit looks a bit too squared compared to the curvy overall.
otherwise
-
Very Nice but here are some suggestions.
1. Get rid of the cockpit and instead round the forward section of the main hull incororation a bubble cockpit. With the cockpit hanging out there like that the pilot would be sitting duck.
2. Take the vertical thickness down some(no offense but it looks kinda like a brick with tailfins)
3. Speaking of the tailfins, give them some horizontal angle, and "sleekify" them some.
I'm sorry if it seemed like I was ragging on you but these suggestions just kind of stood out to me.
-
1. I do agree with changing the cockpit, but not the way u said.
2. I think I'll keep the thickness. It is intended to the heaviest of heavy bombers. However, I will try to smooth it out.
3. Of course, I should of thought of that.
Improvements ae coming.
-
Looks like either a few booleans or a lot of intersecting polys... that causes clipping probs in FS2.
Great design tho, I'll say like the rest, tidy up the cockpit... back needs some work too (thrusters?)
Good job...
-
damn....I can't immagine flying that brick. No offence, but i'll take my perseus over that any day.

You just won't let that go will you? Now that I've had time to think about it, its kinda sad. I bet that made you day too. Tell me, was that the best idea you could come up with?
I could care less if peolpe are mocking me, if they make themselves feel powoerful by preying on the weak points of others, thats cool. But im above that(for the most part).
Bottom line: I'm over it, you should be too.

Why yes it does make me feel powerful. And I do like to prey on the weak. Are you sure your not psychic? It was not however the best idea I could come up with. Think yourself lucky.
We all can't be as enlightened as you demon, so I think I'll just have fun in my blissfuly ignorant, sadistic little world.

OK, lets hear a few of your ideas.

I wouldn't consider myself enlightened. I have matured (probably temporarly), and there are a lot more productive things to do than waste time fighting with others.
Ignorant? Yes. Sadistic? Doubt it(but maybe). Childish? Hell yeah.

And just exactly what does that do to me[/b]?
I've been meaning to go outside more...by all means, go right ahead.

Keeps you from irritating me by disabling your internet. And the 3Gb e-mail would probably mea your email would have to be scrapped or all yer messages still on the server would be wiped.

If I remember correctly, you started all this(admittantly, I am responsible for some of the hostilities). And so what, you dont have any of my important email addresses.

I could probably tell you the names of everyone in your street given sufficient motivation. And what type of car they drive. And what their dogs are called.

Alright, go ahead. Lets see some of your techno-majiq.
Oh yeah, somebody delete our whole discussion when we're through. It takes up too much space...

No really. Go check WS.
AAAnyway. As semi-proof of my mystical 1337ness I can tell you......that you have some ****ed up name, which escapes me at the moment. I did find your address right after the IRC chat and it's in my logs on my busted computer, and if you don't believe me ask....er.....Virtu methinks. He was there.

Simple stuff. Try my mother's maiden name. Or My neighbor's pet's name.
And what exactly happened to your computer?(I'd really like to know)

I would but trawling though birth records on a laptop at 9am on a Wednesday morning isn't how I get my jollies. I have things to do. I would elaborate but I wouldn't want to expose a 10 year old to descriptions of my debauched activities. You probably get enough mental trauma at home.
And like I said. Read WS.

:Clears throat:
What the hell ar u guys doing!!:mad2:
I have made some improvements.
I thinned it out and built the cockpit out of the main body. BTW, this model is created from one single object. Meaning, no booleans at all and gluing for the turrets. As for taking a perseus over this behemoth, a perseus is a fighter and this is a bomber.
Poly is currently 526 and a texturer is till needed.

"social ineptitudes"....big words don't scare me. I admit that im not the greatest at being "social" in every sence of the word, but i'd say that im far from inept.
Speak your peace in a PM. It's clear that MD dosen't want us cluttering up his thread.
No I don't "get off" on arguing(if you can even call it that) with you, especially @ 3AM.
Thailand??? I'm not even gonna ask...
*argument dead*

Gonna try and get this thread back on topic. If you don`t want to make the bomber less thick you should at least do something about the rear of the ship.
It's just a box! I don`t have a problem with Chunky designs but that is a little too square.

the new model is MUCH better the front could be a little more rounded if that's what you mean. :)
good job
-
Megadude asked for opinions, so I don't understand why Demon442 got given such a hard time for giving his. For the record it's an opinion I happen to agree with. The ship is horrible!
-
Very sleek! Is that the primaries at the front there or more turrets? I think this would be good perhaps as an Ancients bomber, its TOO good to be Terran, but thats just me.
And would the more socially inept members of the forum go fight in the main board or sumthin'!
-
Yeah, that's better dude, and I agree that the front needs a bit of rounding, and the engines alot less square. But good:jaw:
Thor
where's an admin around when you need him to smite two babbling idiots. Kill this argument guys. Demons point was valid, even if I don't agree, so lets just leave it at that.
-
I've taken the squareness into consideration. The back was fixed a bit by carving nore sides out of the square thing. I also added a flap for the engines in the back. I decided not to round the front. The flat squary section under the cockpit is for the secondary bank whick i think should be boxy and squary. BTW, I meant it to look a little clumsy (therefore the need for two turrets).
The guns in the front are the primaries (there are 5).

Let me know what u think.
-
It's looking better every time you fix it. :jaw:
-
i think it rocks, i usually hate things that are asymetric in nature. Other times they have to grow on me. i liked this one right off.

maybe because some constructive criticism would have gotten the point across, and helped to improve the model. But that's just my opinion.

what's the fun in that?

mmh, sounds like my Jotun :p
-
All these rave reviews and no one willing to texture it?
-
When you have no artistic flair yourself finding someone to paint your ship for you is a tough cookie. If you can uv map the ship yourself, that helps. It still won't guarantee you help though.
-
Yeah that's something that happens, alot. I have no visual artistic talents or i would do it.
-
well it isnt SO difficult
more than talent you will need
1-photoshop:p
2-a little knowledge of the program (less than you can expect)
3-a lot of time and patience:)
btw surely having an already unwrapped model helps A LOT
-
Well yes, that's my point. If you supply a model pre uv mapped then painting it simply becomes a Paint Shop Pro job. He's more likely to find someone willing and able to do that.
Bear in mind though. When it comes to artistic flair you either have it or you don't. Practice and understanding help, but only so much. When you know that no matter how long you take or how hard you try the results are going to look mediocre at best, that time is better spent finding someone to do a decent job.
After all, Rome wasn't built by a single person.
-
eheh i see the point, and surely having a certain .. "forma mentis" is a strong element, but with computer graphic you don't need the..uh..mind-hand coordination needed when you draw with a pencil and this reduce a lot the skill requirements...obviously you have to know, to "see" the result you want to obtain (and that-in my experience- you will never obtain...maybe it will be better or worse, but it will be always different), and secondary you have to distiguish when yor result is bad or good, but even if it isn't all, they are the most important points, usually enought to make something decent, and there isn't much more...often the lower limit are instead the knowedge of the programs "tricks"... well as soon as i will begin the awing textures i'll take some screenshots and i'll try to make a little fast tutorial to explain exactly what i mean:)
-

To a degree, I agree. However, I found making meshes last year incredibly tough. So tough that I quit for a whole year. It was only when I found found this site again by accident that my interest was revived. I started going at it in truespace and voila! It became easy and I don't even have to use booleans anymore. I can create ships from a single object. So, I'm trying to say u don't have to be born with it; u can develope it.
IP: Do u think the ship still sucks?

Obviously you've had a talent for 3D modelling all along and Truespace has been holding you back. Same happened to me. Truespace brick walled me for months. Eventually I got used to it and was able to get the results out of it I wanted.
Consider though... I've tried plenty of times to paint up my ships and I know Paint Shop Pro pretty well. Yet the results always suck. Some people just don't have a natural inclination towards 2D art.

Erm... best of luck getting it textured :).

PSP isn't great for maps, though - it's shading for airbrushes doesn't really come off as well as with Photoshop, and this is a pretty big nail in it's coffin.
I'll telly ou what, though...you can be a born natural at modelling, but you'll always have something left to learn......

Corel PhotoPaint owns them all, however.

whoever tried photoshop (and spent a while on it since it isnt exactly user friendly) never change it;)
edit-> lol i mixed however with whoever..i shouldn't post at 4:30am next time:p

So...which is the most user-friendly and powerful paint program. I tried paint shop pro a few weeks ago and it wasn't too intuitive to use.
So list your favorite paint programs and the reasons why u like it.

Win3.11's pbrush.exe -Memories...
XP's PhotoStudio Pro -ease of use
it's a short list but im broke, my comp's fux0red for the moment, and havent given any kind of MODing a chance.

as said before photoshop is far the best, althought the most difficult to use, mainly for 2 resons (if you just want to make textures)
1: it has (6.0 or higher) vectors, that are resolution indipendent, and that you can use AS layer masks or that you can cover WITH layer masks, and that are an extremely powerful tool if you want to make geometric paint (panels, wires, mech elements, text, paint stripes and so long)
2: the blending options that can be easily activate/deactivate (special effects that you can apply to a layer, bump mapping it, filling with solid colors, gradients, patterns, setting shadows, satin and other stuff in a lot of ways...i know that almost every program can do that...photoshop just do it better in an easyer way)

that's nowhere near true.
