Hey! Recently while playing with the 'ciws' flag in Blue Planet we realized it was broken. The E fixed it.
This awesome flag (the weapon so flagged can deal splash damage to bombs) was, I believe, added for awesome Diaspora. If it never worked, but now it does, Diaspora's balance may be ****ed up, since this will prevent base ship missiles from penetrating flak.
Can we verify that CIWS did not ever work, even as of Diaspora release? Or did it break between then and now?
What should we do moving forward with this fix?

You can tell I am a professional because I say 'moving forward'.

Aesaar says the Diaspora flak guns don't use this flag? If so we're in the clear!

Agreed, please continue.
Also add some shibes to spice things up.

Would anyone else be ****ed?
it is important to have one sided Battuta conversations to raise awareness of possible issues for other projects :shobon:

One sided Battuta conversations are always important.
A complete assumption on my part, but if Diaspora doesn't use the CIWS flag, then I dare say with 99% certainty that no other released mod has used it so far.
But its good to know, I am hereby informed about the status of the CIWS flag for all my future endeavors.

So how do Diaspora flak guns take out bombs then?
It's been a while, but I'm pretty sure they do...
-
Direct hits? That's how retail flak takes down bombs too
-
There are "takes blast damage" and "takes shockwave damage" flags. "ciws" practically does the same, but in reverse. Instead of placing "taking x damage" on bombs, you place "ciws" on primaries (and maybe bombs too, chain reaction anyone?).
I don't know why someone felt there is a need for "ciws", seems redundant. Except maybe for doing those super special primaries that can shoot down bombs in detonation radius that most primaries should not be capable of.
-
I think it's useful for exactly what you used it for, creating special flak guns that are much better against bombs.
-
It makes sense. If a bomb takes all shockwave damage, then something like Piranha can take down the whole salvo (unless weapon hitpoints are used, which is not always wanted). They also can knock themselves out of the sky if launched too closely together and just one is shot down. The "ciws" flag enables you to limit the effects to the weapons you want.
