It's been 7 years since I heard of this thing and started following it. And it's beginning to bear fruit! ANGELS FALL FIRST IS ON STEAM! (http://store.steampowered.com/app/367270/)
Installing now. Will provide a report soon.

It's really great, but I recommend people wait for a few patches until they work out the networking kinks.

*insert geometry joke*

Will it have actual singleplayer set in its "rich universe of fiction and art" or are we just getting another multiplayer shooter?
-
That by Scott Manley talks about a singleplayer mode...

(Fixed your youtube embed.)
It started as an Unreal Tournament 3 mod; there's a remote chance we might eventually see some kind of singleplayer campaign, but I wouldn't set my sights above Incursion maps BUT MORE.
It's the kind of thing the devs talk about as "nice to have", not "we're working on this".
That being said, bot support is actually pretty good; they have a decent understanding of the full range of game mechanics, so other human players are not required to enjoy the game.

That looks intriguing. The art style of the ships is reminsecent of Homeworld  And the gameplay looks not too shabby as well.... looking forward to the final game.

Perhaps, then, you won't be surprised to hear that most people first heard of Angels Fall First through their Homeworld 2 mod (http://www.moddb.com/mods/angels-fall-first-naval-combat-operations/).

This actually looks pretty dope...

Well, if they have good bots, a Battlefront 2-style campaign should, at the very least, be possible to pull off with minimum fuss. This looks like it could have a lot of potential in singleplayer, even if the missions retain the "gamey" mechanics like BF2 ones did.
