My windows 8 laptop recently refused to boot completely out of the blue, citing missing boot info. The recovery partition isn't working either for some reason, and Lenovo support sent me recovery DVDs. Problem is, it doesn't have a DVD drive. I'm not really keen on spending money on a USB dvd drive just for this. Does anyone know how I could use the recovery disks to make a recovery USB, using my windows 7 desktop? I could try booting the laptop drive in my desktop, but I fear doing a recovery on completely different hardware than what it will actually run on won't work well.

This tool should help (https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/windows-usb-dvd-download-tool). It's an official MS tool that writes iso images to a USB drive.
