I finally finished something.
My 3rd model for the GTB Akira. A really really heavy bomber with the manouverability of Mount Everest and one turret in a weird place. 4 gun mounts, 3 huge missile banks. Can carry the Nagasaki bomb and Pilgrim anti-cap gun.
Side view
(http://koti.mbnet.fi/jabu/akira2side.jpg)
375 triangles, 5 texture maps (1 on the main body + 2 on the round bits, + 1 on the turret)

I don't think I got a very good viewpoint... looks like the tubes at the sides run into the main body.
The textures are regular FS2 (DocTile1A to be precise). I was surprised to see how good it looked, as I was just going to give it a temporary skin.

I have to say naming any weapon the "Nagasaki bomb" is in pretty poor taste, it's like calling a weapon the "Oklahoma bomb" which is the same thing from a different point of view. Fairly touchy subject.
Go take a look at the list of names posted on the Fattony thread in general freespace, there's a multitude of names you could give your weapon.
On a more positive note the ship looks good and the texturing is not bad at all, your commitment is paying off, keep up the good work. (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

He's right... Nagasaki bomb... might as well call it the Aushwitz torpedo... seriously, rename it...

To me it looks like less of a bomber and more of a troop transport.
Give the very front a texture looking like doors, and either the underside or rear with a docking port similar to those on the Elysium. (if on the rear, then you can have a plot reason of using the engines as bores into the hull surface)

I like the textures and the tubes on the sides. Good work (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/smile.gif)

looks fairly good, but it doesn't look like a bomber, it would make a good light gunship though

You're right, of course. I tried to mold it into a bomber, because I need one (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)
it's like calling a weapon the "Oklahoma bomb" which is the same thing from a different point of view. Fairly touchy subject.
*starts erasing names*
might as well call it the Aushwitz torpedo...
*sound of names being erased*
I guess this means I have to rename the Estonia ramming ship, then? (http://dynamic.gamespy.com/~freespace/ubb/noncgi/biggrin.gif)

I've got a 1.5l bottle of Cola and a bag of popcorn.

Since I hate starting new threads, I though I'd use this thread to share a new destroyer thingy, and as for some texturing help.
Texture scheme one ("http://koti.mbnet.fi/jabu/sold2.jpg")
Texture scheme two ("http://koti.mbnet.fi/jabu/sold1.jpg")
I personally think they both suck, because I used low-res FS2 maps. I don't have the skillz to make my own, and I really can't stand another tiled tex.
