I dont mean to take this computer evaluation idea from sandwich, but anyway...
Tell us your 3DMark scores. Mines 11367.
NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti4600
1024x728, 32 bit color, compressed textures
D3D Pure Hardware T&L
Antialiasing:none
-
include the options you used too.
example: (for me)
Geforce 2 MX/MX400
1024x768, 32 bit color, 32 bit textures
D3D Hardware T&L
No Antialiasing
score: 2470
-
Doesn't run. :headz: I'll wait when R300 (Radeon 9700) hits the shops and then I hope I'm going to get a new computer. :)
But what's that question doing in FS source code forum?
Edit: Pretty nice score Phoenix. :)
-
Which 3DMark? 2000 or 2001?
-
I used 2001 SE
-
3dMark... ick. One of these days we'll have a true standard to measure the real power of both 3d cards and CPUs. I can dream, can't I? ;)
Oh, I think my last scores were around 6,000 for a GeForce 3 using Omega drivers (standard settings).
-
ELSE GeForce 2MX 32MB under Win98/DX8.1/latestDetonator drivers:
1654
:(
Upgrading to 2001 SE too see if there's a difference.
EDIT: Whoop-dee-doo... 3DMark 2001 SE: 1659

Well on my true machine which I dont have at the moment (sent it off for repair, company went bust etc.) I used to get around 4000 in 640*480. It was
Athlon 800
256mb ram
GForce2 mx200 64Meg
win98.
The machine i am using at the moment is
Cyrix 133
32meg ram
SiS6326 *meg card.
Oh, its depressing.
-
ill let you know as soon as i get my gefroce4 mx420 to work in 900 mhz system.
-
Athlon XP 1500+ (1.333GHz)
256MB RAM
Er... Jetway Motherboard (not sure, actually)
Geforce 2MX 100/200 (32MB)
At 1024*780 - 1300-ish
at 640*480 - 3500-ish
Everything 'cept 'systray' and 'explorer' shutdown from the task manager.

give the card a overclock with rivatuner gives about say 600 more points :p

'twould probably overheat - the fan is god-awful.
Besides which, i'll probably get a GF3 in a few months...I figure they should go down in price with their successor being out now.

Few months? You might not find GF3 from anywhere after few months. :p Get a GF4Ti4200 or something like that if you want good price/performance value.

GF4's will be hard to find soon enough. Surely their successor is about to arrive on the scene. Its been about 6 months :D
-
and DON'T get any GF4 MX, it doesn't have the nifty features that even a GF3 has. More like a GF2.5

True that, although I myself just bought a GeForce4 4600 the latest NV30s are imminent... but I couldn't be bothered to wait... and I'm glad I've got my card ;)
-
8217 last I tried; not too bad for just an Athlon 1400 and a Geforce3. :D

I have the option of trading in a GF3 for a GF4 Ti4600 for $200 (the normal price is $400); do you think this is worth it?
-
Since the normal price is most definitely NOT 400$, I'm not sure (Look hard enough and you could pick one up for a bit more than 300$). I heartily suggest that you wait till closer to X-mas before you buy a graphics card, since by then the NV30 should be in the market, and GeForce4 prices will drop.
-
i hear the NV30 will also support glide

Rumors, rumors. It's vaporware at the moment, and it might not be coming for Christmas. TSMC (the manufacter for nVidia based cards) is having problems with .13nm process...

You weren't stupid... :) NV30s are not imminent, or at least it seems like that now.
If you want the fastest card now, get the Radeon 9700PRO. It supports DX9.0 and is about 50% faster in UT2K3 with 1600x1200, and with 4X anti-aliasing on about 150-250% or so faster. :)
Edit: :blah: Corrected some stuff.
-
Bah, people don't need all that power. What they do need is to convince OEMs to ship with GeForce4 Ti4200s and Radeon 9000Pros instead of integrated graphics chips. I mean, the problem with PCs is that you need to support old PCs, and crappy OEM PCs, or else the graphics would far surpass consoles.

Yeah, I just saw it for $400 in local stores, but it is usually available for less online. I guess I will just wait for a while then; it really depends on how well UT2003 and Unreal 2 run. :D

My machine:
2x Athlon 1ghz
Tyan Tiger MP
512mb PC2100
3Dlabs wildcat VP760
Adaptec 29160n
2x IBM Ultrastar 36LZX SCA drives.
Spec_Viewperf 6.1.2: (scores in FPS)
This is an OpenGL benchmark so its only good if you're going to be working on a wrapper or a port.

Note the drivers must still be considered "beta" and the architecture, like the Matrox Parhelia and the new ATI 9700 part are heavily dependant on driver tweaks to perform well.
I'll post the 3Dmark scores when I can get a copy.
-
Lol.. I actually got about a 1200 once, but I was using a crappy Vanta LT 8Mb...
I have:
Duron 600Mhz
128 Ram
Gefore 2 Mx/Mx400 (now I have it, not then...)
-
the long awaited nukebomb overkill 3d mark results from 2 machines.

p4 1.7ghz
256mb pc2100 (ddr)
msi 645e max mobo

p4 2.4ghz
256mb pc2100 (ddr)
laptop model mtech5600 (mobo unknown)

YEAH, BABY, YEAH!

Why the MX bashing? over at Mad Onion (www.futuremark.com), they've got the GF4 MX460 rated as number ten in the top ten graphics cards. Not bard for a budget piece of kit, I feel.
I paid 85 squids for my GF4 MX440 about six months ago, and I'm well chuffed with it - though admitedly, when I'm rolling in cash I'm going to get a big fat Ti4600 or better, just for the sheer hell of it :D
[EDIT] And have I missed somthing, or is this in the SCP forum for a reason...
-
Celeron 600 MHz
256 mb sdram
64 mb ddram GeForce 4 MX 440
Default settings score: 2548
-
Athlon XP 2.1 GHZ
Nvidia GF4Ti4200 64mbDDR
512mb 133mhz SDRam
9582 @ 1024x768 32bit.
Not bad, not bad.

So programmers can get a feel for the speed and power of an average FS players' computer.
-
who else has a laptop that beats 4391? not bad for something that follows my ass around everywhere i go. that radeon burns up my batteries in about an hour though.
-
i take that back, what i really meant was who has a laptop that rus with a score higher than 6300:eek2:. after a bit of tweaking and flaying of unused services and startup items, i got a result over 6000. this little machine only cost me $1860, and it kicks ass! whoever said games and laptops dont mix is full of fecal matter.

Ye gods, that beats my desktop! I got something like 5300, give or take... I managed to squeze out about 8% more by overclocking the video card, but then I started getting flickering textures and stuff, so I disabled the overclocked settings. Meh... I'll get meself a Radeon 9700 Pro, one of these days

i just put together a 2ghz dual xeon server with 2 gigs of ram, too bad i left my freespace cd at home:(
