The GVF Shu (http://www.angelfire.com/space/sesquipedalian/shu.zip) is now available for download.
Type: Advanced Space Superiority
Maneuverability: Good
Armor: Average
Manufacturer: Akheton Corporation
Developed by Akheton Corp. to replace the aged Thoth, the GVF Shu is seeing rapid deployment throughout the Vasudan navy. Although not as agile as the Serapis, the Shu has a higher survival rate thanks to its heavier armor and shields. Superbly balancing speed, maneuverability, armor, and loadout, the Shu is a match for any hostile fighter. Able to perform a variety of functions, its versatility has already proven invaluable in the current conflict, and the fighter is expected to remain in service for many years to come.
Fills a niche in the Vasudan navy, providing them with a Myrmidon equivalent. Not quite as powerfully armed as the Myrmidon, but has the usual Vasudan superiority of engine performance and maneuverability.

This thing looks awesome! It really has the Vasudan architectural feel to it and it appears to be quite nicely balanced. There might actually be a place at the end of my PI campaign where I could use this; is that okay with you? (you will get credit for that)

Only real problem I have with it is that it doesn't..feel..Vasudan. It's more a Terran design.

how did you get the glowey green grid for the tech description. i've always wondered if people drew their own of one came in a vp or somin.

The main body does look more Terran than Vasudan. Actually it reminds me a lot of the Zerg Scourge from Starcraft. But it is l33t :D
For a Vasudan Myrm equivalent, tho, I prefer the GVF Heptu, it has 6 guns. And it would compete quite well with the Shu, since it's made by Akheton's competitor, the Sahr Corp.
IIRC, also, Sahr makes the Thoth, not Akheton.

Nah. Its a stubby Vasudan answer to the Shivan Naga from the 158th. ;)

Looks pretty Vasudan to me, actually; the curves and textures are very well done in my opinion.

nope, alikshi's right, but as i'm not a SW freak I won't expand on that ;)
yeah, it does look great ( only thing I might discuss is the cockpit, vasudan fighters have no "separated" cockpits, they're usually part of the hull, w/o any distinctions save for the "glass" )

cool, but you may try to lighten up the "body" maps, and maybe try other colors (green would be better in my opinion)
you could also add some "wires" to connect laser cannons to the body in order to have a mix of tech and organic
oh, you also may try to change the borders of the panels on rear of the wings, they are too "separated" from the organic textures (they are dark while the rest of the wings is yellow)

Haha, yes it looks like a Tie Defender....IF YOU WERE LOOKING AT IT UPSIDE DOWN! lolz :rolleyes: It actually looks like a smoothed out Vasudan Wraith to me. Hehe what with the three wings and such. But nice design! ;7 :yes:

the only things it has in common with td are the "tri-style" design and the frontal cockpit
it is much more similar to a tie phantom, look: (http://www.theforce.net/scifi3d/starwars/meshes/tiephantom.jpg)
but personally it remembers me more the zerg "flyers" (cant remember the name) (edit: probably was "mutalisk" but not sure)

I thought it looked like an-upside-down advanced Anubis.
And it looks good, very Vasudan. It renders quite nice too.

Excellent work, as always, Sesqy. I think the Reshef and the Shu will work nicely in my campaign. Appropriate credit will be given, of course. :)

Think I could use it in the Combat Federation project? We need models, and this is an awesome Vasudan intercepter. Would look nice with a couple of our new weapons shooting out of it. If anyone could make .ani's for the weapons, that would be great. we need those also.

Aha! My secret is out! ;) The Shu is in fact a reskin of the Zenith with new table entry and interface (check out the credits). I thought it looked more like a Vasudan shape than a Terran one.
Anyway, of course you can all feel free to use it, that's why I released it! :)

I just looked at the Shu in FRED. My god, the thing is TINY! It's only 8 meters long! Every other fighter in the GTVA arsenal dwarfs it!

Why? Why? Why?
I didn't make this model, so I don't have to original cob file to reconvert at a larger size. I tried using PCS to convert the pof to a cob and then converting it back again, but I get stack overflow errors when I try the second step. I downloaded cob2pof to see if that would work. I got a similar problem. I'm now downloading the latest version of PCS to see if the original pof to cob conversion was the buggy bit and whether the new PCS just might do it right.
It is a very strange situation. Since the file was already a pof, why is it now giving problems when I turn it back into a pof?

take a good look at it, and think about this logically. The apollo cockpit, the valkyrie cockpit, hell any cockpit. Roughly the same size? I would think so, if that is the case then the model is fine even at half the length of another fighter. whereas most fighters are not as tall as they are long, this one is. it's shape would lend itself to a shorter fighter (lengthwise). yeah it's small, in length, but it makes up for it in height. if anything i would say only add two meters to the length, the overall shape as oposed to the flatness of the ulysses, would lend itself to having a comparable amount of interior space, space for fun things like weapons and engines.
once again though, this is just my opinion, and not a fact of physics used in the game.

yeah, but it's a Vasudan fighter, the cockpit should be larger than that of a Terran fighter, to better accomodate their large frame...

Woomeister the Great and Philanthropic is helping me out with resizing the Shu, so hopefully it will be ready for (re-)release shortly. :) I'll post a notification thread as soon as it is done.
Anyway, the moral of this story is to triple-check everything, and never assume anything. :rolleyes:

Also a third version is up, if yours doesn't have thruster glows download it again.
This version has everything and should be the last...

I haven't tested the second Shu, so I don't know if the thruster glows work or not...
But if it doesn't, where can I get the third version of the Shu?
