Title: [resolved] 3D shockwaves look odd in nebulae
Post by: deathspeed on December 06, 2015, 02:40:57 pm
As the pictures show, my shockwaves don't show the nebula colors behind them.  I am playing FSBlue, but I notice this in other mods as well, not just BP Complete.  I think I have some custom shockwaves installed, but I cannot find the thread for that now to see if the issue has already been resolved.

Its not a game-breaker, but I would welcome any suggestion for resolving this issue.  Are there other suggested shockwaves I should try?

Thanks!

EDIT: I found a thread  (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=89187.msg1776986#msg1776986)where I had asked for help installing Nighteyes' shockwaves, with files downloaded from this  (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=82108.0)thread.  SInce I know where it is now, I might just temporarily remove the folder with this and see what the "stock" 3D shockwaves are like.

EDIT 2: Thar took care of it; now I can see the nebula thru the shockwaves.  During gameplay I don't even notice any other differences in the shockwaves.

Good to hear that this is solved but that looks awesome in a freaky sort of way.

Yeah, I kept some of the screenshots because they did look cool, like it is some sort of portal opening with the shockwave.

That could be used for a nice huge subspace rift opening (have current blue flash, then nebula spreads out from it, ship enters / exits while the shockwave ani plays its portal like effect, then the nebula retreats, concluding with the current warp flash.  Or something.)

Maybe a rift bomb?  Detonate one immediately after launch for a quicker escape than normal warp out, but you don't know where in the system you will end up, and there is a chance you will die (a la the hyperspace button in Asteroids or Defender).  Or fire one at a group of bombers, and instantly four fewer ships attacking your cap ship.
