Title: System Shock 3 Teased
Post by: Mammothtank on January 12, 2016, 06:49:08 am
Hello. Incidentally after looking at the "What Game are you playing right now" topic and seeing that a new System Shock Enhanced Edition has come out on steam I found myself intantly going to steam with money in hand, checking the System Shock 2 News Page wondering how long I'd been out of the loop I found something more exciting. I saw an article by Rock, Paper, Shotgun saying that System Shock 3 is formally announced.

I found out that Otherside Entertainment are planning a reboot of the series called System Shock 3. I'd make a remark about the name but I am honestly too tired right now and usually I just lurk and watch you guys talk 'bout stuff since I am too skittish to jump in. So I thought I'd play new's man tonight ;).

The Teaser Page:

Their Site (Which also has a forum):

I hope this isn't a pipe dream. But I'd still recommend going to check it out. Apparently right now they in the middle of making a prototype for their reboot of Ultima Underworld. Apparently they had a whole bunch of polls and stuff for fans to choose to what they did and didn't like from the previous games.

Mostly I decided to post this because I thought fan's of the game series who didn't know of it's existence. Damn I'm going to look silly if people already know about this :). Go ahead chuck your two cents if you want and any news you discover that you think people should know about the project.

I have System Shock 2 from a sale a couple years ago, but haven't played it yet.  I generally don't like starting series in the middle, but at the time try as I might I could find no information on System Shock 1.  It was like it didn't even exist.

There's a recap right at the beginning, so you don't really need to play the first game before playing the second.

That being said....

(It used to be abandonware, which is probably why you couldn't find anything on it at the time)

System Shock 2 is also not a direct sequel (you don't play the same character as the first game and the plot is mostly self-contained), so not having played the first game is no reason not to play it.

Once I couldn't find 1 I wasn't really waiting on it any more.  Now it's in line in the backlog.

System Shock 2 is my favourite game of all time.  For reasons of nightmarish controls on modern systems, I never played the original.  They'd better not screw up the sequel.

Is Ken Levine involved, I wonder?

System Shock 1 is available on GOG, either classic or enhanced edition (both bought together)

The SystemShock.org site had a thing to solve that nightmarish control setup and its horrid compatibility on modern systems called "System Shock Portable" with things like Mouselook, better frame rate and better quality music (if you are into that). Now that System Shock 1 is not abandon ware anymore they have had to change it into a FSO like system where you provide the new content with the original game files from either an original CD or the steam version. It's very good.

About Ken, apparently he's not but hes made a statement saying that he would really like to get involved in the project due to his new mystery project that he is working on.
