Title: Barrelled Turrets: Nasty little things!
Post by: Killfrenzy on August 01, 2002, 04:58:07 pm
Okay, I've managed to get turrets to work, and whilst the saucers work fine, the barreled ones don't. According to Rampage's tutorial I've done everything right - setting axes in the right positions, etc etc. BUT the turrets, although they fire, won't rotate and track their targets.

How do you do that?

In PCS what have you set the rotation to?

Try this, Go to the subobjects menu and set this

Turret01  - Movement type - rotation around axis
                   Movement axis - Y axis

Turretarm01 - Movement type - rotation around axis
                        Movement axis - X axis

While I`m here I`m having a problem with my multibarrels. They track the enemy but occassionally fire through the ship. Any ideas what I`m doing wrong?

All turrets fire through the ship you put them on if you give them a firing arc wide enough to do so. Tis the way of things. Tis the way of the force.

I'm back from Holiday, and yes, I did try the rotations in MV32, but I need re-assuring. The turret rotates on the right axis, but with the barrels, if all parts are rotated, they seem to detatch themselves from the turret....

Check your axes - you need to set the axis in Ts (the point where the object rotates around).  If it's in the centre of the barrel - i.e. rotates above the base object - move it.

The axes are as follows:

Turret: Central

Barrels: at the base

Did you remember to set the barrel piece as rotational submodel for the turret?  That sounds like your problem.

I dunno if I did or not - I followed Rampage's tutorial, so it's all his fault!:D:D

In case I didn't, how do you do it?

Use Modview, go to POF Editor, and select the turrets tab.  In a drop-down menu for "rotational submodel," change the entry to the name of the barrel sub object.  It should turn the box around the turret base orange and place a blue box around the barrels.

I'll try that. Thanks!

If it doesn't work, I'll be knocking on your door with a BFRed! :D:D
