Hi...
this has nothing to do with user IP banning on this forum or anything, but i want to know if it's possible (i'm sure it is) to get a program that will work with a browser (IE 5.0+ preferably) and will not allow the viewer to enter certain websites (either by banning the domain or the IP)
Could i do that?
Thanks

Just look for any program that advertises itself as a "Parental Filter" or something along those lines.
-
NetNanny or something like that.... there's a bunch
-
Whats your specific need? Other users of your computer that you dont want to access different sites, or something more for yourself?
-
probably to block popup ads from certain places ;7...I know I was having quite a bit of trouble with popups for a while before I started blocking urls like crazy.
-
AdKiller works great if u want to kill pop up ads

Like if my younger sister (6) keeps going to sites my mom doesn't want her going to! (only a few specifically)
not pr0n sites, but sites my mom doesn't want her going to
-
she has to learn what to do at some age...
-
yeah , but she goes on all these forums (those are what i want to block)... like for movies and such (Lord of the Rings forums, etc.) and gives out her name, age, and other information! My mom doesn't want her to, but she keeps going to these sites!
There's only like 3 of them... it's got to be posible to just have some program run in the background that alerts and blocks that IP/domain!

My little brother used to stay on the computer 24/7 going to a "neopets" website and would never get off. I created a simple VB program that would redirect any neopets site visits to the 404 error page you get when the website can't be found :) It was really funny, but sadly my computer crashed and I lost the program. But he still hasn't found out that the "neopets" webserver is "no longer down".

 thats cruel :p

Dude! Make a program like that, except add a "block list" thing, and it'll be REALLY effective. I for one would download it
For example, the kid who find that he's been blocked by Cybersitter or whatever will simply mosey on over to Peacefire (http://www.peacefire.org/) and download the hack. If he gets a 404 he'll assume it's down.

See, this is why you go for a cable modem. My ****ty DSL service only, er, services one or two phone lines in the house, so the cable to the computer runs to a modem partway across the house. Whenever my sisters take a few hours too many shopping for clothes, I just unplug it, and they're too dense to figure out what's going on.:D
-
Stealth: Visit the sites, and look up the titles. Get NoPops- free program, it has a function that allows you to block specific page titles as junk. They just won't open, and unless your sister's unusually computer-literate for her age, she'll never figure it out.

I need something that will block all IM and chat and other related systems,
I too have a sister who is tring her damnedest to get abducted

...Like the Recycle Bin?
Better yet, don't delete the whole thing, just some vital data file that makes it work, instead of crash and burn. Most computers are unstable enough that nobody will be the wiser.
Come to think of it, it's kinda disturbing that I know how to do all this.

Ooh, I like this.
Spytech SpyAgent Professional is a powerful monitoring solution with tons of features and configuration options. SpyAgent Professional records keystrokes, windows opened, applications ran, passwords used, internet connections, websites visited and even captures screenshots that can be displayed in a slideshow. It can also be configured to send a log file to a specified email address every X minutes.
Nice site, Stryke.

Well, whaddaya THINK I go looking at these sites for?:D
It's dissapointing, there's still no ICE on the market, or at least not on the freeware market. I wanna kill some warez kiddies!

IE has that Content Advisor thing. Anyone looked at/used that?

I suggest that you spend the time explaining to your mom why sensoring her childeren is bad fror their development and deprives them of the vital learning experiences that they need to become well rounded open minded individuals with a balanced view of the world. Teaching them that words/behaviour seen are taboo and not to be repeated is a much better thing to do.
What exactley is this "conent" that she doesn't want her seeing?
Failing that.
If you want to block her out of a select few sites then just stick their domains/ip addresses in your hosts directory: c:\windows\hosts for windows.
-
not stop her from seeing sites, but stop her from GOING to sites...
she's got these forums she goes to, and she thinks they're all her "friends" and she gives them her address and phone number and such, and most of these people are in their 30-50s, but she thinks they're her age!
I want something like whoever-it-was made the program that displayed a 404 error page every time they tried to go to the page

Im sure being abducted and/or raped etc will be a vital learning experiance. :doubt:

Well I would agree with him there, since I also think that censorship of any sort based on age alone is one of the stupidest things out there today, but this seems like more of a security related issue than the conventional censorship problem.
-
Hmm, yes, there is an issue there. Put the domain of these forums into your hosts directory as I explained abouve which will mean any material from those domains will not be downloaded. This is a bonus because not many people are aware of this way of blocking and you won't need a program which leeches off the RAM and cpu (I'm a system resources miser). If you don't tell her what's going on there's a 0% chance she'll figure it out.
Next, I suggest you explain to her to never give her full name, address or phone number to anyone online. Don't just tell her to, make her see your point of view, educate her about the risks and convince her not to and you won't need to censor her in future.
