Title: Problem installing a mod
Post by: Mammothtank on February 15, 2016, 01:47:22 am
I assume this is the place for this kind of problem. Apologies if it isn't.

I was just messing around making a collection of ships that I would like to FRED with and I just downloaded Esarai's GTB Stheno. Once I installed it I noticed that I cannot use it in FRED, it does not appear in the drop down box. I know that two pof's were included in the download and I only took Stheno.pof. The other two ships I have are the
SC Lamia and the TF Gefjon. Each file I have made sure are in the right areas data/model, table, maps etc.

Also when using the DEBUG it gives me this:

It seems that you have an error in your ship table; there's a "+Dynamic" where the engine expects to see a true/false. Use a text editor of your choice to search for that string, check whether it is used correctly and correct it if it isn't.

The TF Gefjon has a +Dynamic. But the GTB Stheno doesn't.

Glide:
          +Dynamic Glide Cap:                  YES

Should I just remove this? I don't really know much about tabling yet.

Depends on whether or not you want the Gefjon to glide. The correct syntax here is

Glide:   YES
          +Dynamic Glide Cap:                  YES

Thank's The E. You da man, I don't know what I would do with you. But there's still the problem with the Stheno not showing up in the FRED editor at all, I'll see if using the other pof file works.

(Edit: Yeah that didn't work)

Could you post the fred2_open.log?

DEBUG doesn't give me one.

When I add in a Gefjon it gives me a new error and Stheno still doesnt give a log and doesnt show up in the drop down selection box. I downloaded the one from the Wiki page which sends me to fsmods.

That's just a warning, you can click "No" to continue (or you could fix the MOI in pcs2, which is quite simple, click on "Recalculate" under "Moment of Inertia", the three boxes in-between should now not be zero)

Thanks. Niffiwan you wouldn't be able to help me get the GTB Stheno to work would you?

It doesn't appear in the FRED drop down box and it doesn't give me any errors in the debug. All the DDS's are in the maps, table is in the tables and its pof is in the Model's folder where it belongs.

Rename the -wep.tbm to -shp.tbm for esarai's stheno.

.... All the pdd's are in the maps

Wait what? FSO can't read PDD's, the maps need to be in another format, preferably DDS (or PNG at a stretch if you don't care about video RAM usage).

(mind you, that shouldn't stop the model loading, just the textures won't appear)

Thank you very much.

You are welcome.

In the meantime, why don't you check out my first model made with Betrayal's collaboration, the SC Raguel?

After the Gefjon and the Stheno that's actually what I downloaded straight afterwards. It's very plump for a Shivan cruiser and shiny, I haven't tested it out yet though. I'll fiddle around with it tommorrow. It's kinda 11pm here.

Also, just after all that Stheno decides to give me errors too! Yay Stheno!

That's another non-fatal warning, looks like there's a missing texture, sthenod, which should be in the maps folder. If that wasn't supplied with the model, you can remove the texture in pcs2, from the name I'd guess it's a debris texture?

You need to open bhaal-shp.tbm and remove the line that's causing the error. It will be line 3, and it will start with several "=" characters.

This is going to come across as very harsh, and I do apologize for that, but please be a good user and try to read and understand the error messages you get. Some of them are hard to interpret, granted, but this one isn't.

Now that you say it. I can see it now. Thank's I'll try to be more observant, I took me several re-reads. I know this might sound hard to believe but I have been able to solve a bunch of my own problems. It's probably just how tired I am right now.
