The theme this month is BEAMZ
Just remember the rules:

No HUDs
No Photoshop or any post procesing
Must fit the month's theme.
Only 3 entries per person, per month
Watch those HUD gauges (especially that sneaky FPS gauge) and check out the Screencam Script (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=82173.0) to help you win a badge and bragging rights. You can see the rules and the previous winners here on the Wiki (http://www.hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Screencap_Contest).
Screencap Scoreboard:

The theme this month is the perfect theme for Eradica Final Fantasy beams

Isn't that the Advent Rebels' *what-you-call-a-SoSE-übership-again*?
-
That definitely screams final fantasy to me

Is that Ravana firing a BFRed from a convergence turret?

Basically. This shot was taken from Vassago's Dirge, which I highly encourage you to play. :)
-
Currently replaying WIH (now with voice acting) and the sequel (which I haven't played yet). After that, probably.

Not a convergence turret per se... it's a new (invisible) turret

Wait... someone brought the Eradica into FS2? Is that a SoaSE mod for FS2 or something?
Is the model a straight conversion or a re-build? The texture or at least the glow maps can't be a simple conversion though, since the original Eradica had only orange glows (though I made an alternate texture that made the glows team-coloured).
And for those wondering, it's from Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion - the Advent Rebel Titan to be exact.
-
Straight conversion.
I've got a converted Vorastra sitting somewhere as well. No plans for a Sins TC anytime soon.

Do you know of any tutorials on how to convert models that you know of?

But how did the glow-maps become blue then? In the original textures it's orange after all.

That's very simple editing once the maps are storted out
-
It wasn't easy in SoaSE itself... especially not with how the orange glows weren't just glows but also part of the texture itself and how the orange areas "bled out" into the surroundings of the glowing areas.
But I guess at least part of the difficulty was only having GIMP and nothing else to work with. ^^

I tried taking screenshots for this, but encountered unexpected technical difficulties. When I pasted the screenshot (taken with ctrl+printscreen) into an image editor...it was a screenshot of my desktop, like Freespace 2 was completely transparent.

You either need to: use FSO's built-in screenshot functionality, run FSO in windowed mode, or use third-party software like FRAPS.

I *love* that mission

BEAMZ that would make Admiral Steele proud. Bring your safety goggles.

On the note of the Eradica in FSO - That would make a really nice Vasudan corvette or destroyer if reskinned. Do you have one that is fully turreted? I'm trying to find a really nice HTL'ed Vasudan corvette that can be repurposed into a missile carrier.
-
Too bombastic and stylised for vasudans. Ancients, maybe?
-
Yeah seems like it would fit in with the Ancients crew.
What exactly is a missile Carrier?
-
It wouldn't fit precisely with the Vasudan aesthetic, but I've always found the Vasudan aesthetics to be pretty loose and permissible. The spiny-arm-bits would have to be passed off as some sort of technobabbly experimental subspace drive, and it would not work unless it had stuff poking out of the ship at weird angles.
Missile carrier = carrier for missiles :p
Basically I just need a Zod ship that looks fast and has plenty of turrets that I can reconfigure as missile launchers. Multipart guns with barrels sticking out aren't so good, but small non-glowy beam dishes and other generic 'lumpy' turrets work great for VLS launchers.
I'll take some more beam-screenshots later. We're allowed three submissions, right?
