Well I posted an untextured pic of this a couple of months back and got very little response. I`ve textured it now and I'm looking for a few opinions.

I`m thinking of putting some cannons on the two side projections at the front. I know you can`t put mulitbarrels on the side of a ship but as long as they don`t rotate I can fake a couple. I think the two little engines at the front need something on that bare expanse.
Secondly the big raised area on the bottom of the ship. Put a turret there? It will have to be different from the other 3 multibarrels (I tried putting another on there and it just looked silly). Maybe something like the fusion mortar on the fenris and levi.
-
Coul I resking that and use it as a 14 year war-post 14 year war era destroyer. I'd give you full credit of course. I'd also add a fighter bay. Its kind of weak, whichj is just what I need.
-
I like the design & sense of scale.... Although, i think you need to make the front (from the top) a bit curved, because it looks a bit boxy IMO.
-
I like it, remembers me of my first step...I thing I am not futher yet, but I like it as it is.
-
looks cool
add turrets in a few more places and you've got a cool corvette
-
I like the hull shape exactly the way it is. Sometimes even the Bauhaus is right: Less is more.
A couple of turrets on the sides will make it perfect.
-
What I think would make your model turn from good to great is to add some 'sunken' areas on the sides and at the front of the model. Apart from that, this is very good design. Good job.
-
Give it about 8 more turrets, a fighter bay, scale it up some, and call it a light destroyer. Other than that its A-1 Supar
-
This is a great ship.
-
Funny how everyone said to give it more turrets. There are actually 19 on that ship already :) I`ve blended them in with the ship so they are hard to see. Look very closely at the nose and you`ll see that there are 4 turrets there. They look like little blisters on the skin of the ship rather than obvious turrets.
When you play the game the computer will target the turrets for you. I saw no real need to make them easy to spot manually :) That would be helping the enemy. Like the deimos (which this is a sister ship to) the turrets are hard to spot. You see them when they shoot at you (i.e too late) :)
When I was talking about adding extra turrets I meant great big ones (bigger than those on the top and bottom).
As for adding a small fighter bay. Well at the moment I am a bit stuck for what to do with that projection at the bottom. I`ll have a think about making that the fighter bay.
-
Very good!
How big is it?
I don't know about the turrets, I already voted both as I didn't know how many it had. :D Maybe it has a enough turrets.
-
Try to put a few more varied tex's on it. It looks very bland ATM.
-
It's longer but thinner than the deimos. 1km long but only 250m wide and 300 high. (The deimos is ~500x500x700 in comparison). So the volume should be roughly the same.
As for retexturing it, well it's probably going to get some more work done on it as I get better at texturing but it only the second ship I`ve ever textured so you`ll have to give me a little more time to get good at that :)
-
my suggestions:
1. add more turrets and make the current ones more visible.
-I see 3 very good locations for beam cannons, on the outside of the two side projections, and on the front of the lower projection.
2. use a few more textures
3. make the engine ports in the back larger, almost to the point where they fill up the entire aft end.
Very good design as it is, but it can be improved ;)
-
yeah, put big turrets on the sides ala babylon5 ( the terran big ship ), could be cool.
-
a little bit of forward firepower might work. Maybe a rounded beam-cannon on the front. sorta a wake up beam ("hey guys, im here, and look, i just put a hole in that frigate").
-
I find it difficult to form an opinion on non textured ships myself. Textures can make or break a model. Im guessing from the size of the turrets that the ship is not that big. Would be nice to have someting next to it so its easy to judge the scale.
-
That looks great - so great infact, I would like to ask, plea, and beg if I may use that in a personal campaign I am working on at the moment? It'd make a superb light destroyer and would fit with the story perfectly.
-
The Styx will appear first in my own campaign (The Mercury Affair). After that I will release it to anyone who wants it. TMA is currently a couple of months from release so I`m not giving out any models until I`ve at least reached beta testing. Sorry about that.
-
It's a bit boxy, but I like it just the same.

Ohh Ohhh make a large Cluster flak cannon for it "Anti Cap Ship"

I think all it needs is to be smoothed out a bit, and don't pout mroe than like the number of turrets you see on the Iseni and the Demos. I don't like ships like that, makes the game unballinced
-
It's got about 30 turrets at the moment (5 more than the Deimos) but almost all the extras will be laser turrets anyway so it won`t make a huge difference to the balance.
The Styx is meant to be slighly more powerful than the deimos (it is 7-8 years newer) but I`ll be very careful about play balance since I don`t particularly like super powerful ships :)
-
I didnt say it would be as powerful as to wape sathanas but powerful enought to plaster Cains and such if they are close to eachother fairly easy
-
Is it just me or does it look like the Taiidan HC from HomeWorld?
-
Never played Homeworld enough to know. :) I had a look but I could only find tiny little pics of the HC. Anyone got a picture big enough to compare?
I`ve had a practice adding some big turrets to the side projections but I didn`t much like the look so I think I`ll stick to little ones.
-
I think something needs to be done with the lights area around the nose. The way the lights step in all the way around creates a lot of razor-sharp edges that could be problematic, as well as not looking as polished as other models. The overall design is good (I like the rear bit, the detail is simple yet very effective), so it doesn't need much.

If you look at Thorn's gallery you should find some.

You can definately see a ressemblance. I think the Deimos looks better though. And teal beams nice:D
-
A corvette named Styx?
-
i like it a lot but
1. the texture repetition gives an impresion of a ship little bigger than a corvette (maybe its only my opinion, bah, don't care:))
2.some uvmaps seems wrong (engines area, the diagonal borders, but image is very dark so i may be wrong)
3.windows!!!!where are windows????:)
-
What can I say. I`m a sucker for the greek classics :)

1) Odd that. Quite a few people have suggested that but when I first posted I thought everyone was going to say the exact opposite and say it looked more like a cruiser. :)
2) Yep the 4 polys surrounding each of the engines still needs some work. Truespace kept crashing on me when I tryed to re-map them. I was just hoping no one would notice for the moment :D
3) I`m not putting windows on it. Microsoft was destroyed in a populist rebellion in 2020 :) Seriously though an obvious bridge area is a good target. At best you'd paint windows on the thickest part of the hull :)
