The concept of Galatea Victory is that the Galatea survives her encounter with the Lucifer at Deneb, and goes on to destroy the Lucifer during its' jump to Sol, winning the war but still being trapped in Sol after the subspace corridor collapses. The basic outline of the plot is as follows:
- Galactic Terran Intelligence spots the SC Taranis moving toward Beta Cygni while the Galatea is moving to capture the Hammer of Light cruiser Ramses. GTI assumes that the Taranis will destroy all HoL forces in the system, and therefore launches a diversionary assault against forces in Betelgeuse in order to draw the Ramses into that system. Interrogation of the HoL officers aboard the Ramses reveals an HoL base in the Altair system.
- In Altair, GTI discovers and HoL supply depot containing Ancient artifacts, and traces them to Altair IV. Since the war is in its' early stages, there is more time to search the planet, and more data recorders are found, including the knowledge to build fighter-sized Intersystem Subspace drives.
- Using this information, GTI launches assaults on the Lucifer fleet to whittle it down before it reaches Vasuda. However, The Galatea's victory against the Eva causes the Lucifer to leave Vega in order to avenge the Eva. During this jump, GTI fighters manage to destroy 2 of the Lucifer's 5 reactors, which weakens the ship enough that it cannot run both the "sheath" shielding and flux cannons at the same time. Upon arrival in Deneb, the Lucifer attempts to destroy the Galatea with only conventional weapons and fighters, which the Galatea fights off with reinforcements from the Bastion.
- However, the Lucifer is undeterred. It briefly withdraws from battle to repair itself, then single-handedly destroys the Deneb-Vasuda Prime blockade, and more Shivan forces circumvent the Antares-Vasuda Prime node to regroup, and Vasuda Prime is still glassed. Afterward, the Lucifer seemingly vanishes, and without their flagship the Shivans are slowly pushed back by Terran and Vasudan forces. After a long time, the Lucifer suddenly reappears in Antares, then jumps to Beta Aquilae, frightening the GTA that it is on a direct course to Earth. The Galatea and the Bastion fail to catch up to it in the Beta Aquilae-Delta Serpentis jump node, and rush to the Sol jump node, but find its' blockade intact. They desperately defend against merciless Shivan assaults until the Lucifer appears and barely pauses as it blasts a hole in the combined fleets and makes the jump to Earth. The Bastion stays behind to cover the Galatea as it pursues and destroys the Lucifer, victorious but trapping itself in the Sol system.
The campaign is currently planned to be 10 missions. Any feedback on the plot so far is welcome! Just remember that this is designed to be easy to make, since this will be my first campaign, which is why I am limiting myself to FS1 assets.

Sounds baller!
-
Agree, this sounds really cool. Some creative reimagining of existing FS1 canon.
-
Perfect first campaign. Great idea limiting yourself to FS1 assets, but if you find yourself really stuck for Terran or Vasudan stuff, co sider checking out the things released by Frontlines. We have Terran and Vasudan stations and ships in FS1 style all made up and ready to go. :)
-
The idea looks promising...
... however did you ever consider giving the PVN more agency in this? One of the big problems in FS1 story was how the PVN was mostly acted upon, which made it hard to care about Vasuda Prime etc.
-
Nice idea, but I have a thing against announcing campaigns before having them already finished.
It creates more tension, and stress in my opinion. did in my own release.
-
 Have fun :)

That is an idea I could easily put into the existing framework. In fact, it would solve a couple of issues regarding fleet assets I had been running into. Thanks!

That is extremely helpful and means I should be able to do more things with the Hammer of Light.
Sounds baller!

It is very encouraging to get the verbal support of two people I greatly respect. Moving forward should be easier for me to cope with now.

Make it! And don't forget to give us updates, tidbits and screenshots! You'll get a lot of energy when people give you nice comments about the stuff you share, even before its all done. (Like right now :))
-
I enjoy the idea of being able to change events in the canon with a what if branch. Good luck! :)
-
It sounds plausible and interesting enough, would love to play something like it

The flipside of that is that if you don't announce your campaign, yet take too long to finish it, other people may independently come up with some of the same ideas. :)

...Oh no, more than one campaign exploring the same idea? The horror! Whatever would we do? :P

Wow, this is a great idea. DOOOO EEEET.

The missions have been outlined and production has begun. The first arc takes place over four missions and will constitute the 'demo' of the mod.

I'm noticing a larger GTI role in your plot outline. You might want to start thinking about how this change of event would affect their goals given what we know of the events of Silent Threat.
Will they use this opportunity to acquire more tech from the Lucy to apply on the Hades? If the PVN gets out of the war stronger in your continuity than in canon, does the GTI reconsider their plan to rekindle the hostilities? Does the GTD Legion still gets destroyed at the Battle of Deneb and if not, how does it affect the GTI going forward?
On a similar note, does the way Lucy show unprecedented weakness after the original attempt to destroy its reactors change anything about the HoL approach and rethoric?
You don't have to find answers to all those questions right now (the answers would potentially be spoilers anyway), but those are interesting things to consider about how you want your continuity to evolve going forward (even if you're thinking small right now and/or don't plan to make sequels, dropping hints here and/or easter eggs in your campaign about this kind of stuff can add a few layers of storytelling depth at little cost).

So. Many. Cargo. Containers.

We'll get an achievement if we scan them all right? Or is that required to get the true ending of the campaign?! :(

The way I am using Galactic Terran Intelligence, and the fact that the events of Silent Threat were specifically the doing of rogue members, means Silent Threat would play out in pretty much the same way.
Does the GTD Legion still get destroyed at the Battle of Deneb
Spoilers.

The Lucifer still isn't destroyed in that attempt, it is only barely fought off in Deneb by massive pooling of Terran and Vasudan fleet assets, and Vasuda Prime is still glassed anyway. It's also well known in the Canon continuity that shields don't work in Subspace, so it doesn't seem like this event would shake up the Hammer of Light at all. A failed attempt at destroying the ship might in fact be another sign of Shivan superiority to those cultist Vasudans.

You joke, but now I'm wondering how exactly one would implement Achievements in the currently existing engine. A medal would seem to be the easiest way to do it, but I'm also thinking of maybe having it unlock things for the rest of the campaign.
-
Scripting, I'm sure it'd even let you display an animated "toast" when they're unlocked :D And then create a mainhall button linked to a script to display all the achievements... and write per-pilot data on the status of each achievement... (tooooo muuuuuuuuuch wooooooork)

(tooooo muuuuuuuuuch wooooooork)
That's what I figured. Sadfaec

Forget scripting, you can probably do most of it with simple sexps and campaign-persistent variables, and maybe a few custom hud gauges if you're feeling fancy.
-
Axem needs more projects.
Axem, we need you to create an achievement interface system we can use with mainhalls.

I actually seem to remember Procyon Insurgency pretty much did exactly that.

It looks a little crap, but I've made a title card for the campaign. What do you guys think?

Put some nebula background there god dammit :p
-
Or at least starfield.pof ;)
-
Is this better? I also moved the ships so the sun is behind the camera.

Did you use starfield.pof? It's hard to tell in the second picture.
If you go into the background editor, there's a spot for a skybox model. Type "starfield.pof" into the text field, leave the editor, then save the mission and the new background will load from the media VPs. It looks much better than the engine-generated stars.

I'll use that for future versions, thanks.
Altair IV is looking particularly destroyed this mission:
