Was Darkstar One any good?
On my backlog, but there's some LPs and reviews:

If I wanted to read reviews, I'd have googled them. :p I want the opinion of people who like FS2 as I tend to trust the opinion of people on this board about space sims more than reviewers.
-
Hmm. Not quite what you're asking for, but it may give you an idea (take with a big grain of salt!): https://steamcommunity.com/app/12330/discussions/0/864944465815362474/

Eh, read this one too, seems more informed than the previous one:

I'm tempted by this too, but I have quite a backlog already and open world spacesims are very hit or miss for me.
Also, can you use a joystick or is it mouse and keyboard only like Freelancer?
Since I tried the Freelancer demo last month I get paranoid everytime a potentially interesting game is compared to it.
-
Even if it's only KB+mouse you can pretty easily work around that with Xpadder and / or UJR / vJoy / JoyToKey (see the relevant links in my signature).
-
You could, but it's clearly not designed for that. You'll just end up having to emulate a mouse pointer with your joystick which isn't very desirable.

Crap, I'm in for Independence War. The sequel looks like it delves into open-world trading stuff, which really isn't my speed.
-
Less trading, more... specialized cargo recovery services. Attack ships, call in a transport (there's a mod making it bearable), then exchange specific cargo for specific upgrades through a menu window in your base of operations. It doesn't change a fact that it is an open-world game.

I really enjoyed it, but I haven't played since I had Windows XP. It it mission based, with assignments you can take on the side. There is a bit of an RPG element to add capabilities to your ship, which might add depth for some who enjoy that kind of thing but was just a bit of a pain for me. I like to just jump in and shoot stuff, and earn upgrades through mission progression without having to think about them. :) Sorry I don't remember many specifics, but i put dozens of hours into it back in the day. I wonder if I can get my disc to work with Windows 10...
-
tempted to get those old-school ones like Hind and IL-2. I played the everloving **** out of Silent Thunder II back in the day, which should be along the same lines. But it's been so long since I've played a flight sim I'm not sure I would even still enjoy it. Never did get into Lock On very well.
-
If you get IL-2 make sure you upgrade it with either CUP (offline play) or HSFX for online play to greatly improve graphics and sound.

Also remember IL-2 has TrackIR support as well as UDPSpeed for extracted gauges to a second monitor

I played I-War 2 a few years ago and found it both wonderful and infuriating at the same time (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=79182.0). Not sure I want to touch the first one based on that experience.

Yeah, I don't have either of those things.
-
Well you can use FaceTrackNOIR which is free if you have the webcam and UDPSpeed is free as well

I meant a second monitor. In any event, I've missed the sale now.
But they do have Dead Space up now, which if you haven't played you should. Which reminds me I need to look into getting Dead Space 3.

:bump:
I war one is a work of art.
For the price (even non sale) it is one game that everyone simply must have...
