I've read the FAQ, and I haven't been able to resolve the issue myself, so I thought I would ask. I'm running Xubuntu 16.04 with the latest (FOSS) radeon driver for my AMD Radeon R5 M240 (1gb VRAM) card, and I can play other newer games quite fine (like Hearthstone (under wine), Team Fortress 2). With absolute bottom settings in fs2_open, I managed the first few missions with just minor stuttering when large ships were about, but the first nebula mission is unplayably slow. Anything I can do? I've attached the log, altough it just crashed when I started the mission using the DEBUG-instructions in the FAQ.

latest (FOSS) radeon driver
Sadly, that's your problem and there's very little that can be done about it (at this time).

That's too bad. Well, I'll wait for new drivers then!

You can try using the -no_glsl commandline parameter. This will switch off shader-based rendering, and may work on your machine.

Well hot damn! That's one magical setting, running full on maxed out settings both in launcher and in-game, smooth as butter. Thanks! This is great! Gogo FOSS driver!
Edit: Perhaps you should add that in the trouble-shooting thread for linux? If I can help, let me know. Thank you for you awesome work! I played FS1 when I was a kid, and I have such fond memories of it. I never had the money to buy the sequel though, until now (thanks GOG - 4 dollars for the game in a sale!) - and then you guys made it possible to play it (and enhanced to boot!) on linux, that's just awesome. I will look into all the mods with scenarios and such like also, very fun.
