Didn't realize how comparatively small a Constitution class is.

A Nimitz-class carrier is larger than a Constitution. Star Trek ships are pretty small.

Yeah, they've always seemed to be one of the exceptions to the Giant SF Starship rule.

Although IIRC, nu Trek bumped up ship sizes a bit.

Honestly, I expected the entire Romulan Star Empire to be bigger than 1.3 km.

The ship they showed wasn't even from the show or movies. It looked like a butchered attempt at a D'deridex class warbird, which, IIRC, isn't all that different in size from a Galaxy Class starship when seen on screen.

The D'deridex actually is that large.

I drew that final image as a scale reference to the Enterprise, just to show the difference in size. I love even numbers, so the warbird is 4,440 feet long. The thing is, I provided this image to the producers purposely to suggest that the scene be filmed with the Enterprise in front, obviously closer to us, yet the warbird is still larger. Unfortunately the visual effects people reversed the shot and you really had no idea how much larger the Romulan ship was.

There are a couple of shots in the series that suggest its true size, but at the end of the day it's in space and perspective and the like are really hard to judge in space.

Capability-wise, though, it's only roughly equal to the Galaxy, though.
