Title: GVF Heptu gets some updated love
Post by: Jadehawk on August 18, 2016, 07:38:44 pm
OK, Happy Friday folks! :)

As requested, Here is a start on updating something I never considered! I thought it was a butt ugly design to begin with...but after spending time with it, I'm starting to like what I did so far.  :D

By all means, if anyone wishes to comment, please do so :) Again, IT'S JUST A START!

Not a bad start. Try to add some more curvatures to it. It is, at least, vasudan :P. Segmented, smoothy elements would look great on it. Look at [for example] Seraphis. See how hull elements are arranged.

Good start on the model, though it looks like a gigantic target profile unless it's going to be smaller than it looks. Heavy assault?

Thanks fellas, to be honest, I really don't know much about this ship. Yes read the Wiki on it, but then again, it's not much to go on. I don't even know how well it preformed in FS2. Looking at the original, I'm thinking it's a Medium to Heavy type? My example is somewhat a Medium size. Please let me know if I'm on the wrong track.

I know the so called "Plates" are not good examples of Vasuden way of doing things, but I'll get to that soon enough as I have multiple copies of progress from the original.

This ship wasn't in FS2, it's a fan-made design.

I like it. Is the cockpit shape final?

Much better. Add some polys to main segment. It started to look very vasudan

Thanks fellas :) Cockpit is not final. that's the first initial design and may try something different unless everyone likes this shape?

You've already changed it

Woukd you consider the sekhmet bomber cockpit as inspiration?

You know I generally like the look of faceted ships but in this case I think you really should smooth out some of the lines some more.

Better and better. I can already imagine how I'm hitting its rear with a Prometheus salvo from ~800m.

But when I look at the original one, I can feel a Hercules vibe in it - perhaps I could suggest exploring this, having it to resemble the Herc II a bit? Like getting the engine pods a bit closer together. And... These gunmounts look like having the same problem as Horus and Thoth are having. Perhaps moving them a bit closer?

I'm not sure whether my propositions here are blasphemy or not.

Some more work. Keep in mind, I have saved several stages and this stage I did some smoothing. I can go backwards if this is not acceptable. I looked at most of the Freespace 2 Vasuden fighter and Bomber cockpits and noticed not two are the same. So I went with this one. I think I'll enlarge the missile tubes as well later on.

Well OK, maybe this would look better? Also, Cockpit installed.

Would anyone agree with me if I suggested shortening the ventral engine strut?

I see what you mean and I agree with it, although I do believe fervently in trusting the main artist's intuitions. Design by comittee is the worst.

I'll look into shortening the strut. It's the same as the original and I DID feel it might look better. We'll see soon

UPDATE:
I shortened the "strut" thingy some and it does look a bit better. Currently, I may fall backward a bit as I tried some smoothing (yeah I know some say it's a NO-NO) Just to see if I can make it somewhat smoother. I may just end up doing it a bit different without the smoothing function as the original was not smoothed. I'll post a new model later tonight when I get home.

And after 2 days..ahem! Here is the update.

I tried and tried to smooth the hull out as I felt it was a good idea. But the model is made in a way it's just not workable with too much work. I would have to start over from scratch to get something really good. So I stuck with the basic design and tried to improve it.
