Title: Tenderizer crash
Post by: Makhpella on September 08, 2016, 12:01:43 pm
Hello. I keep CTD-ing on Tenderizer with normal builds for some reason, though I ran through it on the debug and it worked. Not sure how much use is a log that didn't crash, I'm just curious whether there's something in there that could tell you why I crash. The crash usually occurs after the Galatea arrives.

Also, a question regarding lightshafts. Disable lightshafts is unchecked in my settings, yet I have no shafts while playing. Am I missing something?

Nothing in there jumps out at me; sorry.

You also need post-processing (http://hard-light.net/wiki/index.php/Command-Line_Reference#-post_process) enabled.

It's all right, I don't play FS1 much (lack of Trebuchet and all + this was the mandatory new Apollo playthrough), I was just curious. That crash is also haunting. Last I played (several months ago), I ran into it also.

My CPU is quite lame, though my GPU can take it. Could you tell me which options are more ressource consuming? Or just point me to some reading material.

Thank you for your help.

The only option we have that is a real performance killer is Shadows (which you have to enable manually). Everything else can be handled by your GPU without breking a sweat.

Google Translation from Dutch to English:

refraction
Refraction may refer to:

* A phonological process, see refraction (language)
* The refraction of light rays by, for example, glass, see, refraction of light
* The overturning of waves, see surf

It would still be worthwhile to try turning off your flags to see if it affects the crash.  There could be a bug in the code (or the driver) even if your GPU can technically handle it.

How soon after the Galatea arrives does the crash occur?

Let's say the Vasudan cruiser never arrives.

This is my usual command line.

-missile_lighting -3dshockwave -fb_explosions -fb_thrusters
-dualscanlines -targetinfo -orbradar -rearm_timer -ballistic_gauge -ship_choice_3d -weapon_choice_3d -3dwarp
-warp_flash

Only the shockwaves jump at me, tbh. And things do go boom in that mission. But BP's HFH also has plenty of explosions, and it works like a charm.

Edit: So, my benchmark (Icarus :)) ) agrees with my new settings, so I guess I'm keeping them. Getting a little stutter at warp effects and explosions, but I can live with it. Need to get used to the shine.

Edit2: No longer crashing with today's nightly.

Were the Osiris bombers present? In the 6 September nightly I was getting random crashes when (Shivan) bombers were present, though the crashing seems to have stopped with the 8 September nightly.
