I'm late with this but: https://globenewswire.com/news-release/2016/09/07/870242/10165014/en/Interplay-Announces-Sale-of-Significant-IP-Portfolio-Wedbush-Securities-as-Strategic-Advisor.html

Very late, yes (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=92493.0) (this is, I think, the fifth thread somebody's made about it). General consensus was that there would be no way for us to afford to buy the entire Interplay library (since they aren't selling FreeSpace by itself); somebody made a bid anyway, but it failed.

Has it been announced who the winning bidder and what the winning amount was?
I tried to Google this information but couldn't find the info.

I hope someone bought it to make a profit selling the individual IPs, as then we could have a prayer at getting the FS IP. But then again, even the FS IP by itself is probably out of our reach, because it still makes money on GOG and Steam.
Although, because of that fact, it should probably be relatively easy to get a bank to back any community bid for it (as we'd be able to use the profits from FS / FS2 sales to pay off the loan).
