As happy as I am about more Red Dead (RDR is one of the best games of the last console generation), how the hell did they come to the conclusion that they should call this RDR2? There's nothing, nothing about RDR's ending that is in any way conducive to making a sequel set in the same setting.

It's most likely a placeholder until the reveal the real title.

I hope they'll bring this, and the original RDR to PC. Maybe bundle them together as well. I suppose it's good they're working on a new one but we'll have to see how good the writing, characters, setting etc will be.

RDR still is one of the breathtaking games I've ever played, there were times I would just find a good vantage point and take in the world.

I suspect the answer involves the phrase "do you see this empty stadium? this is the room for people who are likely to actually care".

If Final Fantasy and Far Cry can have 500 different titles with no relation to each other whatsoever, I'm not really bothered with two RDR.

Red Dead Redemption was already an unrelated sequel to Red Dead Revolver; that's what he was complaining about (that they should have made a new Red Dead instead of making RDR2).

I also heard it was a prequel, which would be really disappointing.

Honestly, most of my objection comes from Red Dead Redemption being thematically about the end of the Old West. Its whole theme is "this era is coming to an end, so settle your scores now"; calling a new game in the series Red Dead Redemption 2 is ... weird, given that.

I mean, I am overthinking this of course. But only because RD Redemption truly is one of the best examples of what video games can be when they move away from classical hero stories and try to explore classic tragedy instead.
