Title: How to get third person view?

I saw in the key bindings that to zoom in and out is the keypad + and - keys. However pressing these don't do anything in-game. I've tried reassigning it to different keys but still nothing happens. Am I missing something really obvious?

The * key on the numpad allows you third person.

* is third person chase view. It keeps the HUD but the center reticle will be misplaced and it will be harder to hit things. The numpad delete key is for third person free view. No HUD and you get to control the camera.

These are both in the controls setting under misc.
