Title: Inferno Alliance
Post by: Charismatic on February 08, 2017, 03:04:12 pm
Websites I have looked at:
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=70582.0   >>>>Leads to a single 2_INF-CORE.vp file, which wxLauncher cant find InfernoAlliance
http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/topic,43840.0.html >>>Leads to a mirror of above file. And a Readme, which lists 5 files
http://inferno.hard-light.net/SOL/download1.html >>>>Which leads to all 5 files mentioned in above Readme, but all broken links.

So how do I find and download Inferno Alliance?

FreeSpace Files has Inferno Alliance (http://sectorgame.com/fsfiles/uploads/Projects%20-%20Campaigns%20-%20TCs/Campaigns/SCP%20Campaigns/Inferno%20Alliance.rar).

I do have Inferno Alliance .rar 99 mb
it holds a single VP, 2_INF_CORE.vp
I put that in /games/freespace2/InfernoAlliance
(a new, empty folder i created)

wxLauncher does not detect this as a mod

EDIT: Because I do not pay for winrar, i changed the *.rar to *.7z for Seven Zip, to extract.

That's because it doesn't look for folders; it looks for folders containing mod.ini files.

7zip can extract .rar files; that's a waste of time (it only worked because 7zip checks file format, not just file extension).

Quote 1: Ok so where did I go wrong? And how to I fix?
Quote 2: So i should not use 7z? What should I use to open rar file?

Everything ever released related to INFA, in one single rar: CLICK (http://www.mediafire.com/file/e9g1vqu4b4mlbty/Inferno_Alliance.rar). I'm not sure if there is any still complete mirror.

Quote 2: So i should not use 7z? What should I use to open rar file?
...I literally said 7zip can extract .rar files. The waste of time was in renaming it, not in using 7zip.

Ok, thanks. Got the files and everything. Only thing is that it does not appear in my MOD list, with wxLauncher.

That's because it doesn't look for folders; it looks for folders containing mod.ini files.

AdmiralRalwood already answered this question ;)

Archives linked by me or Nyctaeus contain mod.ini so... I have no idea how you extract them. :wtf:

I have the MOD.ini.
Launcher does not detect MOD tho.

Freespace2/INFA
The MOD.ini is in the main folder. There is a Data and a Readme folder within /INFA/ as well.

MOD.ini is
Code: [Select]
[launcher]
image255x112 = INFA.bmp;
infotext     = Inferno Alliance hybrid release version. Note: Requires Inferno SCP or a 3.6.9+ SCP build;
website      = http://inferno.hard-light.net/SOL/;
forum        = http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php/board,20.0.html;

I have the MOD.ini.
Is it named "mod.ini" or "MOD.ini"? wxLauncher may be case-sensitive in this regard. If the latter, rename it so that it's named "mod.ini" (if Windows won't let you, because it doesn't see a meaningful difference between the two, you may need to rename it to something else first).

It was named (Via the download you guys linked to) mod.INI

And to my surprise, after renaming to all lower case, it appears. Amazing. Launcher is case sensitive to *.ini files.

Thanks for the help guys. Much appreciated.

[OT] Any Modder should consider that: Case sensitivity, especially on Linux-systems (like here). Most of the mod.ini files read: mediavps_2014 instead of MediaVPs_2014.
