I realise I may be a bit behind the times on this but I've only just seen the trailer on a magasine cover and my god... If Halo is a poor port then this is what I'm heading for - heck by the looks of it I might go straight to it anyway!
The general style of the game is vaguely similar to Halo, featuring ground, armor and air action across massive (250K a side apparently) maps, it looks huge.
Want to see what I mean? well...

And there's more info on the site here:

It looks hot though.. does anyone else think much of it though?

Hmm, this looks interesting. I'm downloading 2 of the trailers from Fileplanet now.
-
Looks sweet, I'm gonna watch for this
-
can you say *drool*?

Average graphics with big areas and lots of nice effects...
The game looks pretty good, but graphics don't make a game... I wonder if it's any good.
That must be a PC game, as resolution is more than 640x480 in those pictures, but is it a port?
-
Nope, it's straight to the PC with the engine developed specifically for the platform and the game. Stop by the the site I liked to and read the FAQ on the game, you'll see why I'm so excited by it!

A bit like C&C: Renegade... nothing amazing, though I can't know as it isn't released yet, or is it?
Of course it can be very good, but you'll never know...
Edit: Except that it's FPS game and you can fly in space in it... that's interesting. ;7

*gets in line for trailer*
-
I've been watching it for a while. I like the look of it. And you can fly into space.
It's out for the PC and the XBox, BTW.

But much much more polished by the looks of things. C&Cs engine was pretty poor if you ask me - the game was fun for a while but it was a pretty low/standard shooter if you ask me. This looks to be based around the same general style but much more polished (then again, could it be said that Halo and C&C have things in common? I've never heard that said before but thinking about it they do share gameplay elements).
The fact you can fly all the craft though - including the dropship, which is what I'll be doing - is a big plus though, and you can get into turrets on the mothership from which you launch and defend it against fighters and so on... you can also launch from the mothership in a fighter, fly down to the planets surface and start killings - all in one go, no mid-mission loads.
That looks like a lot of fun.

Actually Renegade was pretty good, though pretty short, and some missions weren't fun. But some missions were very good, in my opinion. :)

Indeed, I didn't do much research about that game but it indeed sounds fun, without mission loads!

If it accomplishes what it promises...
maybe we'll get a new breed of shooters :p
-
That's cheesy ;)
Is it even possible to have a new breed of shooters? We've got single player, sneak around style, we've got horror and we've got team based and strategy. I dont think there's that much more that can be done. Now we've got people developing those styles to their fullest potential and in some cases going through several styles of game to make new hybrids (Breed, Halo and so on have vehicle combat). Strategy, RPG, Single and team based are all being combined to make new games - but there are few truly original games anymore.
This is either good - we get more polished games based around the same style, or bad - we get rehashes of the same old thing.

Out where! I'd like to get that. Amazing. Plus it may be the only space sim(sort of) until Freelancer. I wants:D
-
I know it's cheesy, but I couldn't resist :p
-
There are no truly original anythings, really. Evan all your thoughts must have been thought by at least one of the innumerable people ever to exist.
eww....even those ones, I'm afraid. :blah: :doubt:
-
most likely those ones. Kellan, you said it was out? Where?
-
He means it will be out for those platforms, it isn't yet. From what I can tell it's out some time in the 3rd or 4th quater of this year... so - not long!
-
oh. Well I can wait. It looks cool, but I can't download the video. Stupid Fileplanet.

Yeah, and that's bad when only place to download is fileplanet.
If you want fileplanet to be fast and without wait times, you have to pay. Many places are fast without cost.
-
Yea, baby, this is going to kick Halo's ass.
-
This just came to me, but has anyone else considered the possible mods this game could bring about (think Freespace FPS). That could be extremely cool. You launch from an Orion in a dropship, fly past a small blockade of fighters with the help of your escort, then land on the planet, jump out of the dropship and attack a NTF base. Or dock to a Shivan Ravana and go inside to cature it. The possibilties are endless. You could fly the escort or be on the raiding team. This all depends how Mod capable the game is, but do this not sound amazing to anyone else
-
Bah. Nope. I don't think it would be too moddable. After all, isn't it an MMPOG?
-
No, it's a single player game with stellar online capabilities/possiblities. That means it may be possible to mod at least the single player game.
-
I think you can - I remember reading somewhere they're trying to make it as mod friendly as possible, it'd certainly be interesting to play!

:cool::yes:
Stargazer.
