Normally I would just select the mod in FS2 Open Launcher 5.5g, however as of installing FRED 3.8.0, this no longer works. FRED is stuck loading the same mod. Did something change?

You absolutely must use wxLauncher (http://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=89162) with 3.8. As of FSO 3.8, the 5.5g Launcher is no longer supported.

Tried this, it doesn't work either.

AFAIK you have to start FSO once with the desired mod, to change it for FRED2 aswell. It should be enough to run it and to kill the process right away... so you do not have to go in-game.
Or you simply start FRED2 with the desired mod command line.

Thanks, that worked!

Or just launch FRED through wxLauncher: hit F3 and a FRED button pops up (you need to select a FRED build on the basic settings page first).

Aha, thank you for that tip. :)
