For those of you who like homeworld and do not yet know...
After so many months of piddling around their are official screenshots of the game finally being release. While we people on the net will have to wait a tad long for these to come out on the web six exclusive screen shots of HW2 along with an interview with one of the relic development team (alex gardner I believe) in an upcoming issue of PC GAMER (october issue it is believed).
You can find the thread on the 'relic news' site forums here...
http://forums.relicnews.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5245
The revolution is starting!
-
Heard about this. I'm gonna buy this game as soon as it comes out.
-
I bring pictures - scanned by someone else and found on this thread on the IW2BB:

So without further ado:

Isnt that a bit.. illegal Thunder?

not what i expected, better in some ways. Ships look way better than the origanal. Though it looks like ships are able to fire a lot more beams than the origanal, almost looks overkill...almost.
I'd like to know how many years HW2 takes palce after the end of HW.

*scaffold sorry
anyways, it says "the mothership under construction". Its the same god damn mothership, and the scaffold was destroyed shortly after her launch. Thats a HW1 shot!
and its about as illegal as pirating mp3s
that translates to the relative level of "everyone-does-it-so-who-gives-a-damn"
-
/me wants...
/me wants now!!!
-
Different scaffold... different mothership.. it has the same shape... but it has differences..

I don't think so - Relic didn't want anyone posting the images on their forums and threatened to ban anyone who did. However I didn't scan the photos, I haven't hosted the photos (they're on someone elses server) and I haven't done anything else to the photos. Just posted them on a forum - so I shouldn't think I'm in much danger of getting slapped by anyone :)
-
Ahh, barracks law... gotta love it.
-
lol. BTW, that is an actual HW1 shot. I was a HW nut, and that is a HW shot, with a different background. However, if you look at the caption, it says that it'll feature more of...what, I cannot say, but I would think it said it will feature more of a good thing, or some such thinga-ma-jig.
-
I thought it was overly similar - and it makes sense that to avoid giving out to much information they'd just re-make some of the old scenes in the new engine. You can clearly see the upped poly count on the ships though...
-
hey.... i recognize those pics..... I just got my new PC Gamer edition and thats exatly what it looks like.... :nervous:
but still..... ME WANT NOW! :D

Considering how it got GOTY from over 100 publications including PC Gamer, they're pretty safe when they say that...

lol, I can't think of any words to say.
But I like it.

Look at the top of the first image, then top of the second...
"...will feature more of Homeworld's Epic Sweep."
-
Wow. They look very arty - as in, having a drawn style. However, I have read that some people thought they were concept art and apparently they are not. Maybe it's just the scanner though.
*Is inspired to go play Homeworld again*

I came to that decision after a long time of balanced, unbiased thought! :D You would agree, if you had listened to the call, if you had fought her children. You decided to abandon the quest, to turn your back on her when she needed more badly. You're not worthy of her infinite perfection.

Then tell me, what makes Homeworld 1999's best game? Their opinion?

No. The things in Homeworld that formed their opinion.

But how could the very same things that formed their opinion form such a different opinion for me? If they're truly the best, they ought to form equal opinions on everyone, don't they?

Some people are......shall we say, less enlightened and perceptive and do not realise the sheer brilliance.

Exactly! These less enlightened people go with the masses, accept the opinions of other people without making the effort to create one of their own.

Tiara, Are those mods you have for HW or just screenshots you found, if they are mods you have, then can I download them ??

I had 'm till I formatted my disk. But I'm sure you can still download them.
Here are MANY HW mods (Both HW and HW:C mods) (http://dynamic2.gamespy.com/~homeworld/links.php?op=viewlink&cid=3)
HW:FS mod (http://www.strategyplanet.com/hwfreespace/main.htm)
HW:B5 mod 1 (http://www.b5mods.com/)
HW:B5 mod 2 (http://mods.firstones.com/homeworld/news.shtml)

I bought HW long before I saw any reviews....
I think its safe to say I formed my own opinion....
-
I understand you have an opinion, even if it's different from mine. What I don't understand is how you can make that opinion the absolute truth. That's like saying apples are better than oranges because they're red, or because there are a lot more people who like apples than people who like oranges.

Eh? If 90% of the gameplaying peoples of the world say that Homeworld kicks-ass, then it kicks ass.

Well, _I_ say it kicks ass. And clearly, my opinion is the only one that matters.
I'm totally psyched for HW2. Homeworld is quite high on my all-time-best list. Easily top 10, possibly top 5. Its the kind of game that I got into the industry to be a part of. With just about no exceptions, there wasn't a single element of the (single player) game that wasn't polished superbly. Normally you'll get graphics-but-not-gameplay, or gameplay-but-zero-story, or graphics-and-story-but-no-originality, or graphics-but-no-immersion. They did an admirable job of fully expressing all the critical stuff.

Yeah, but they ****ed up the multi-player and MissionMan

Bah - you're a newbie. :p ;)
...A newbie who is basically the reason we are all here, mind you - but still a newbie.
-
Homeworld is fun, true, but I wouldn't rank it up my top 5 games of all time, I'd think. Maybe not even top 10, but I can't be sure about that. It annoyed the hell out of me that you had two options for the main game, but they were the same freaking campaign with different ships, for one instance. Also, several of the missions were impossibly boring, even if the eye-candy alone managed to partially compensate for that.
-
Once you get past that goddamn asteriod mision, things pick up...
"This is the Garden... of Kadesh"
best missions EVAR!

LOL - if you guys actually end up fighting or flaming each other over this infantesimal issue, I will be absolutely dumbfounded.

Bought and tried both HW1 and HW2... Didn't get anything outta them, but hey that's just me...
My opinion - good ideas, bad implimentation. Probably cause I don't like Micromanaging, I want to be In the action not directing it 100%!
One Cool thing I WAS impressed with what the FULL SIZE (in their scale) Galactica... I put that on my WANTED page ;7

Before the old computer crashed I anticipated lots of mods so I had 5 folders set up for HW cataclysm....
Now there is only FS2... One pure folder , one XPerimental (all mod) folder, and one for each individual mod (full installs each, I don't do that switch data folder stuff!)
:ha:

Why does everything Homeworld: Cataclysm is HW2? Its starting to bug me, go on forums, anywhere.. search for HW2, brings u to a cataclysm site... gahhhhh...
Anyway, just got my PC Gamer, screenshots look cool, the commentary is even better :p They say they will release ALL their production tools for HW2 so it's totally modable. Everything they used to make it(except commercial programs of course :p) we get to use! Big SDK pack yay!
I'm just glad that we FINALLY will have a game with wonderful developer support... at least thats what they say.

In the wake of Total Annihilation, they promised that you could add ships for the sequel. I plan to take them up on that offer. :D

Yes, but the Brainz™ (nothing to do with Headz, kiddies) behind TA, Chris Taylor, has said repeatedly that he is going to do an RTS after he completes Dungeon Seige, which he has. I haven't heard anything official about this RTS yet, but I know it's a-comin'! :D
And as for TA2 - meh... a license isn't much good if it only covers the name/storyline of a game that had virtually no story. It'll probably rock, yeah, but who knows. Any word on the developer, namely, who?
ROFL! On the "About (http://www.gaspoweredgames.com/team.shtml)" page of Gas Powered Games (Chris Taylor's gig), there's this one guy whose bio is as follows:

Okay, agreed that Roberts is The Man To Watch. I just hope he doesn't go for a pansy fantasy setting like TA: Kingdoms. Compared to TA, that really sucked. Hand-to-hand combat just isn't as good as ranged combat.
I also agree that TA had zero story, but I hold out hopes for the sequel. It's an Asian developer doing it - they did Kingdom Under Fire, or something.

Roberts? Who's dat?
I never even bothered to buy TAK - I don't care much at all for that setting - never played any of the Warcraft series, for example. Come to think of it, I couldn't find much interest in Age of Empires, either. :p
Never heard of KUF.

I'm somewhat disappointed to finally realise that my poll about polls got deleted, Sandwich. Okay, so it took me a while - but you wouldn't happen to know anything about that, huh? :D

I was the other one. :D
But I thought it would just get closed, not deleted.

I think I also selected that option. :p :D

On the other, utter, pointless nonsense.
