Title: Subsystem question...
Post by: Anaz on August 16, 2002, 12:52:21 pm
Ok...heres the deal...

I have my heierarchy all properly laid out in truespace. I convert it, I have the two objects that I wanted, ShipDetail0 and Engine01a. I set the properties on Engine01a to have a $special=subsystem. I add a subsystem called Engine01. I save the pof. I open up modelview, look at everything, its all right-looking. I put it into the table file. Open up Fred2, and put my test ship in, and I go into initial status, and in the subsystems box there is.....absolutely nothing!!!! I open mv up, everything still looks right...  I give up and go onto hlp to ask people WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!?!?

So, WHAT AM I DOING WRONG!?!?

I am very confused about this...

I only add subsystems (unless they're totally destroyable, like turrets) in MV32. But, as for engine subsystems I dunno....this is where people like the Bobster and the legendary Dark come in! :D

I agree with killfrenzy. Add the subsystem in modelview instead of making it a seperate object (unless you want the model to look differently when it's destroyed) e.g the radars on the orion etc.

But if you're arsing about with hierarchies, do it with at least TS3 onwards, as that allows you to properly name things. :)

Um...make sure the tbl reference is to the object Engine01a.  That may help - I'm not too clear on what you're trying to do, though.  Got a pic of the ship and the objects in question?

yeah, that's probably what's wrong.  Try adding

$name=engine01

to the submodel entry for the engine, and see if that fixes it.  I am assuming you don't want the "a" displayed as part of the engine name.  Subsystem names in tables and in the pofs must match exactly or they won't work.  I am sure that is intentionally coded so that typos didn't crash the game entirely during development, and to support modability.

this also occurs when adding subsystems in PCS without objects attached to them...

but have you got the tbl referencing the sub-object as a subsystem? that's what it sounds like anyways.
for pcs not adding them.... could be the same thing, but could also be that you forgot to set a radius or something....

PCS adds them...it shows up fine in modelview. I match the tbl name and the pof name exactly, still doesn't work...
