This problem (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=94444.0) has been reported before (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=94346.0).

Essentially, your pilot configuration got corrupted. You might want to try to launch a debug build of FSO, continue through any warnings and then go to the HUD configuration and hit "reset all". That seemed to have worked in the past.
If that doesn't help, you'll either have to delete your pilot or fix it with a hex editor.

Do you know how i would fix it with a hex editor? Cause when i try debug the game just crashes at the pilot select menu no matter what
And i've been looking for a plr.cpp file everywhere and can't find it. Am i looking in the wrong place? I even went to appdata

nevermind, i fixed it by deleting the fsport save, then everything else worked fine
