Title: LOD problems. one screwed up family
Post by: WraithHost on July 17, 2001, 01:40:00 pm
Hi. Anyone remember the Zenith? well anyway I'm back from holiday and trying to create a 4 LOD pof and it ain't working.
I'm using Truspace v2.0 and cob2fs2 v0.01
In my trial I Have 3 objects
a local light Glued as sibling to my LOD1
this is called 'detail,1'. This is then glued as sibling to my LOD0 which is unnamed. This creates a higher level group also with no name. Now , when I run cob2fs2 i get a pof that has the two objects merged into 1 LOD.
Any Help appreciated.

It should be named detail1 not detail,1 ...  this is prob. down to TS1-3(I think) having a dodgy nameing convention.

yup tried that but truespace 2 keeps changing it back to 'detail,1'.
Annoying huh?
anyone know of any patches etc?
I'm not shelling out cash for a later truespace version as I use 3dsMAX and it cost enough 2nd hand. If all else fails I'll just have to release a 3ds or cob version of Zenith and let sombody else fight it into a POF file.

Well, you could try and use a HEX editor to alter the names yourself - but I've never tired this myself.

That said, a few people use 3d Max for model-making, so maybe you could try and ask them.

I dont think PCS should have a problem with this.  as truespace sorts subs in alphabetical order as long as you refer to the details as detail,1  detail,2  deatil,3 then they should still be in order.  PCS i am told recognises the word "detail" to understand its a lod, from there it uses the order in truespace (ie 1,2,3  or 4,7,9 whatever) to determine the order of the lod's.  So I dont think the comma should cause any problems in the conversion.  I really dont understand why ppl are still using cob2pof !  get PCS here:
 http://alliance.sourceforge.net/files/Software/AllProFS2Kit.exe ("http://alliance.sourceforge.net/files/Software/AllProFS2Kit.exe")

Kazan says there are a few bugs still but i doubt you will notice them.  PCS has many advantages over cob2pof most importantly it supports repts less than 1 and always creates correct collision detection.  It also highlights untextured polygons as red so when in model view you can go to wireframe and locate them directly.

Thanks for the Advice. I'll download PCS and give it a go. I had an older version of PCS but it kept ballzing up my trial models so I forgot about it.

Hope to get texturing once I've had dinner.
