Just wondering.... FS2 doesn't seem to like my PXO account at the moment, actually :(, but FS1 logs in ok. Unfortunately, there's nothing_and_nobody online.
But I'd like to give this MP stuff a shot, especially as i managed to get Serious Sam running ok last night over a 56k modem. Relatively lagless in co-op, depending on the number of players, so it was decent fun.
So does anyone still play Fs1 online then?
-
i haven't played in a while but whenever you want to.
-
I've never played online, and I would, but I just reinstalled fs1, and the graphics are screwy.
-
Bit of a disaster, to be honest... kept on getting chucked out of games :( inlcuding just after I'd taken out a Vasudan cruiser (and been just about killed by the balst)
Bah. Maybe Fs2 will be a bit better, the netcode miught be faster or summat.
-
I've only played online a few times.
-
Playing FS2 online is so much better than single play,in my opinion.
-
I like singeplayer. You can't MOD multi-player. That's why I don't like it much.
-
I used to be on PXO every day for a short time - but I got my ass kicked, and lost my sign-up info, so I stopped. :)
-
Given that FS1 (I think) was successful and FS2 wasnt. Which one has the biggest multiplayer community?
Hades, whats wrong with your graphics for FS1?
-
The engines are screwy, and the Laser garphics suck. All of the Interface is perfect. The ML-16 Looks really weird, the nebulas are all blocky, and the engines are just scary. I tryed updating it. it doesn't matter. I use fs2 anyway.
-
thats...kinda...fs1...minus the engines...
-
yeah, but try run FS1 on a Voodoo board, and you will note the difference. especially the "blockyness" dissapears.
FS1 was made when voodoo ruled. oh sweet memories.

You can. You just need more friends and a LAN.

hmmm.... i play FS1 multi quite a bit
im logged in under "Fsnuke" (I know Thorn's on there cause I just saw him today ;) )
the FS1 online community is quite active.... though it won't be once school starts up again

I used to be an old FS1 Online player. But then summer came and the community dried up. Personally, I prefer FS1 over FS2 simply because hornets\tornz don't work right in FS2.
-
That's why you load out Rocks and Temps for TvT, harps and trebs for coop
-
I've never played Freespace online. I've always wanted to. Before I had a firewall that wouldn't allow me to play online. Now I don't have the Internet. Such is fate.

Now I don't have the Internet.
:wtf:

just do what i do: take a loki, load it out with temps, and spiral in at them. They'll never hit you, as long as you drop a countermeasure every now and then when you have like 30 missiles coming your way.
-
I tried FS1 a few times years ago but I only had a 56k connection then and the game was not really playable with that. FS2 works much better with 56k's and I used to play that online something like 24/7 about a year ago; I might still be somewhere on that rank list. :D
In my opinion, dogfight and TvT games are not really worth playing on a 56k since the broadband players will get a significant advantage (their pings are only a little less but that makes a big difference in allowing missiles and especially primaries to hit the targets), but cooperative missions work great. If you have something faster than 56k, these games are quite fun to play, but try to avoid non-standalone servers (i.e. with a playing host), because the host otherwise gets an enormous advantage with primary weapons.
-
Well, I officially retired from FS2 Online. In fact I rarely ever play FS Online anymore...but im not gonna retire just yet.

I played on thorn's server yesterday (I think)... some mission against the HoL... I gained me greatest ever 'victory' (taking down an Aten), and it crashed. Sigh.
At least Serious Sam works fine for me.

I keep two versions of FS2- one with full cbanims, fs2_open, and all my Port and Star Wars mods, and one bare-bones unmodified installation for multiplayer.
Personally I would like to see more multiplayer mods. Maybe the Source team can make a PXO alternative that lists what mods the host is running, or something.

Hehe. Any of my messages you see on here over the past month or two have been made from my work. I'm a little naughty... ;)
