You may not notice that the Mortal Engines book, the first of the Mortal Engines book series, is turned into a film scheduled for release in 2018.
You may not even notice that later books have significant mention of air combat, which is somehow related to space combat in FreeSpace.
Also, cosplayers now have something to focus and get into, especially the Hester Shaw cosplay (http://www.mortalenginesmovie.com/2017/05/incredible-hester-shaw-cosplay-with.html), of which is loved by everybody.
Anyone who read the books know that Hester Shaw has a sense of mystique and mystery about the character. Sometimes her actions speak louder than words and wreak havoc but deep down, Hester is a good person. So they find her irresistible as an inspiration for cosplay. Maybe it's just the bad ass scar across her eye that the cosplayers love, but good steam punk goggles and scarf treatment. I am not sure as of yet of the coat...

I am sure kids seem to love dressing up as Hester.

I am sure this Hester Shaw cosplay costume, albeit the scar, is the best match so far. I guess it would rival any cosplay of other characters like DOOM Guy (Classic Doom, Doom 3 and Doom 2016), Sephiroth (https://esarai.deviantart.com/art/Sephiroth-207631261) (made by HLP member Esarai), and others. HLP members may free to try this.
Now back to discussion about Mortal Engines. As usual, no spoilers allowed.

Let's talk about the book and movie. I know there are some elements that derived or burrowed from FreeSpace. MEDUSA, Traction Cities, Airships, etc. Like Jenny Haniver?
-
Nothing in Mortal Engines has anything to do with FreeSpace.
-
I get it, but the Airships in Mortal Engines has anything to do with FreeSpace, but it doesn't work in space. It works in a planetary atmosphere.
-
So it's like Freespace, except that it isn't. K.

Not just Freespace. It's Star Citizen. Wing Commander. Privateer. Elite. And so on.
It's set on Earth. Entirely on Earth. No aliens. No space battles. But entirely steampunk. No wonder why Earth gets ravaged in a 60-minute War that destroys all science and tech...
Of note is where Tom Natsworthy and Hester Shaw gets attacked by Green Storm fighter airships...

I'm closing this thread.
Someone who actually knows what Mortal Engines is about (Which means someone not named Bryan See) can make a new one.
