I recon there should be other items in the command menu, such as a Target menu.
_______________________________________
Make Wingman = makes target vessel a wing man.
Dock to cargo = if the targeted vessel is a transporter dock with cargo pod from list.
Taunt Enemy = an ani file is played (you trator come and meet your maker) and the targeted enemy turns and shoots you. (usefull if fighting Dragons which out run you).
Dock/Undock = your auto pilot takes over and you dock or undock from the targeted ship.
Information = The game pauses and an information screen is brought up displaying what type of ship you have targeted, picture of the ship, and the best way to destroy it.
Persuade Enemy to change its allegence (IFF) = The enemy targeted might be sugestable to changing its allegence if it has a pertucular new sexp say "Is_Sugestable" or its hull strenth is below a certain level say 5%

If you like these ideas or have some of your own then hopefully a programmer might discuss the possability of including some of them in a future relece of Freespace.;)

Thats a very interesting idea.

i could see that one as maybe a "power down and surrender your vessel" type thing. it powers down, iff changes. wait a minute.....i can do that in fred. i just can't ask them to do it in mission.

Why? You can assign orders through the ship command menu. The escort list does the rest
Dock to cargo = if the targeted vessel is a transporter dock with cargo pod from list.
This is more of a FRED thing IMO, ships should be scripted to dock, and that should not be overridable.
Taunt Enemy = an ani file is played (you trator come and meet your maker) and the targeted enemy turns and shoots you. (usefull if fighting Dragons which out run you).
As for Terrans, these are professionals that wouldn't respond to a taunt. Vasudans are much too ignorant. Shivans don't give a **** what you say.
Dock/Undock = your auto pilot takes over and you dock or undock from the targeted ship.
Cargo hauling really wasn't that fun in XWA... maybe if you could extend your shields around the cargo it would help a little...
Information = The game pauses and an information screen is brought up displaying what type of ship you have targeted, picture of the ship, and the best way to destroy it.
Not very realistic.... and the best way to destroy a ship? shoot it!!
Persuade Enemy to change its allegence (IFF) = The enemy targeted might be sugestable to changing its allegence if it has a pertucular new sexp say "Is_Sugestable" or its hull strenth is below a certain level say 5%
Im sure the Shivans would be more then willing to join you

vadar_1 so you dont like the ideas you dont need to wright an essay to you think there rubbish. by the way i have never been able to spell, i think theres somthing wrong with my head :p

Over quoting is like excessive use of the horn, annoying.
Anyway whithout rehashing to much Fred can handle most of that. I persoanlly think that traitor stuff should be scripted. OOO! Idea, how about a reputation for Alpha 1? The higher up in rank you get (which is determined by kills) an added bonus to the priority of you getting attcked by hostiles personally (There's that ACE I'll be the one to take him down!)
Remember Chiggy Von Richtoven (SP?) from Space Above and Beyond in the Episode "The Angriest Angel"? Bastard had 'Abandon all Hope" painted on his cockpit in English to intimidate the Humans... God I admire that! Or maybe things like that should just be scripted too?
I really want to see better Ai and command over capships the higher up in rank you get. So you can order them to engage certain targets if the battle changes, or if it all goes to hell to tell them to bag A$$ so they aren't destroyed (in a campaign it should reflect what forces survive a battle, plus future reinforcements-resupply) .:blah:

Sounds like a lot of work.
