I was just reading several articles on New Scientist (//www.newscientist.com) and while I was reading one (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=23122500&sub=Computing) article, it somehow made me think of the following.
Perhaps in the FreeSpace universe, the actual universe is just one living creature or even cell of a larger being or machine. Life is a virus that the Shivans (the 'white-blood-cells' of the universe) are trying to destroy. Just a thought.
But there are some really good articles on the site. Such as:- Crow reveals talent for technology (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=99992651&sub=Hot%20Stories)
- Fusion reactor breaks duration record (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=99992637&sub=Hot%20Stories)
- Supercomputing platform built for gaming (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=99992266&sub=Computing)
- Statistical model tackles World Cup predictions (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=99992353&sub=Computing) (31st May 2002)
- Virtual world grows real economy (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=99991847&sub=Computing)
- Ice-melting robot passes Arctic test (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=99991786&sub=Aviation%20and%20Aerospace)
- Nuclear powered spacecraft get NASA budget boost (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=99991880&sub=Aviation%20and%20Aerospace)
- Russia proposes manned Mars mission by 2015 (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=99992511&sub=Aviation%20and%20Aerospace)
- Astronomers plan telescope on Moon (http://www.newscientist.com/hottopics/tech/article.jsp?id=99991735&sub=Aviation%20and%20Aerospace)
-edit- Added two top articles.

SeaQuest DSV?!?![/b]
Yay! :D :) :p
I guess we could have high-atmosphere combat, and nuclear weapon interception and the like. It depends how many space-based military satellites you think the US and Russia have, or do not have.

This is all very interesting. Infact its gonna get beter with time.
This is just the begining.

Finally. Nuclear-thermal rockets are the way to go.

The shielding for tanks, has already been successfully tested by the MoD, they put it on a APC and it took multiple hits with a RPG, and then they drove it off. I made a thread about it.

There are no unique ideas. All your thoughts have been thought before by other people, irritatingly.
Yes, even those thoughts. :blah:

I could bet no one ever thought about cutting off the leg of a monkey named Geronimo to throw it at a giant purple panda. But I could be wrong.

You've never met my friends, have you? :)
But think about it: over the course of history, untold billions of people must have lived. There are only so many thoughts, just as there are only so many names. And unlike names, you can have as many (or as few :p) thoughts as you want.
-
Well, there are almost definitely an infinite number of possible thoughts, so there will always be un-thought thoughts left in any finite period of time. :D
Anyway, some interesting articles there.
