Title: Warcraft 3 (kicks arse)
Post by: Knight Templar on August 23, 2002, 12:20:34 am
Possible Spoilers, Beware

Yeah, haven't been a huge amount of New Topics lately, and I just finished the game (Love it, on Normal of Course, i'm not the greatest n00b)

Anyways, great game, jus some discussion oppourtunites.. Favorite Heroes? Race? Strategies?

My Fav Hero would have to be Jaina ;7 mmmmm
followed by Thrall, although he seemed kinda weak, dunno, Chain Lightining doesn't seem to great till' Level 3. And the Wolves suck, ok scouts but crap melee fighters.

Favorite race is probably Orcs. not good enough yet with any of them to decide yet though.

And Yes i am aware that there is another WCIII thread, but i hate ressurecting the dead.. i mean unless it's in the game.

Multiplayer.. I like the Undead... the Dreadlord and Lich are great...
Single player? Uther.. only because he was cool in WC2...

Single Player was too easy... only the orc and undead last mission were difficult. The last night elf mission was just long, but not too hard (just keep throwing mercs at them). Multiplayer is great... but the random matchup system needs tweaking. As for the worldeditor.... its got some awsome features... but is lacking some of the most basic staredit features. Its a temporary replacement for starcraft (a long one... coming up on 2 months). End credits were awsome :) "ahh dragons, run!"

End Credits were funny as hell.. great stuff.... i sucked at the last level, got down to 4 min and was wasted.. so i had to follow suit with 33% of the heroes in the game and turn to the Dark Side

Do I have to finish the human campaign then to get the Night Elf and Orc campaigns?

yeah, first it's humans, then undeads, then orcs and finally night elves.
My favourite species: orcs, of course :D
My favourite hero, I don't really have one, Hellscream maybe, his ... hmm... whirling attack is cool. Haven't finished the game yet, I was at the last mission when I left my home for 3 weeks ( harghh ), and was crushed 4 minutes before the end "waves at Knight Templar".
The last undead mission was hard if you ask me, btw.

you can still wait, starcraft2 is not to come any time soon, as Blizzard stated 2 months ago starcraft2 wasn't even planed.

Haven't we had enough WarCraft?
There are Warcraft1 to 3 and the 2(?) expension pack(s), but only one StarCraft and only one expension pack for it.
I want my Protos back...mh Protos against orc...cool idea ^__^ lets make a cross over!

No, we haven't had enough Warcraft. :) I've only played WC 1 and 2 (and expansion pack of it), and they're both very good.

So I take it that

Orcs have hte most power.
humans have what
Knight elves have what.
and the undead have what. ?

I don't have Warcraft 3 yet so I am a little behind. :)

But it sounds like the Orcs do more damage as fare as hand to hand combat go. I think.
Everyone seems to like the Orcs best  :)

Every race is balanced to have its own advantages and disadvantages. Orcs have more tough units, but they are expensive, and their air unit sucks (as well as their ability to combat air). Bloodlust is what gives orcs their kicks really.

Humans, as always, have adaptability. They can quickly speed build a structure by assinging more peasents to the task. The arch-mage spell Mass Teleport is one of the few reasons I play humans at all however.

Night Elves have three great units IMO. The huntress is a cheap unit that is availible almost right away. She can completely decimate the other races starting units. The chimeras have a devasting ground attack, but cannot fire at air, making them somewhat weak against an aerial assault. The dryad has abolish magic (or... dispel... something like that), which is great to have along as autocast.

Undead are like the zerg... they work better in swarms. Necros are my favorite, due to their ability to turn a battle once it gets going. After a few corpses, they can raise alot of skeletons. In no time you'll have 50 or so skeletons bearing down on the enemy. Frost wyrvens are also great due to their ability to freeze, and temporarily shut down towers. They can also slow units.

As for the last night elf mission, just make sure you hold your allies town for as long as possible (send wisps to build moon wells (on autocast), protectors, and help with repairs). When the time arises that you must defend your own base, gather all your forces around the healing well, and build protectors... lots of protectors. keep sending furion to the merc camp on the right to buy mercs (trolls?). You should have all three gold mines entagled, giving you lots of gold. At the last 30 seconds, uproot all your buildings, and send all your wisps on repairs, to keep them at bay for the last critical part of the mission. Dont worry about archimond coming to your base. He arrives at the Circle of Power just as the mission ends.

Kool Strategy, i'll keep it in mind when i get there on hard (oy vey)

And I think what Vadar meant by Two months is that Starcraft is a kick ass game and that vadar will go back to it after he's "had his way" ;) with Warcraft III and goes back to his true calling.

At Least something to that effect...

And I could be wrong.... but what are the odds?

um no...?

blizzard has two divisions, Blizzard north (which is responsible for the Diablo series), and (suprise suprise) Blizzard south (which is responsible for the FPS series (war: o&h, war2, war2x, sc, bw, war3). Blizzard north is now working on WoW, and blizzard south has not released their new project. most likely supporting blizzard north, or working on war3x. There was an official annoucement of no future plans of starcraft 2. Pherhaps next year.

Took you a long time to discover that Warcraft 3 is a great game, dude! But glad you finally did.

Great storyline and lots of action to keep your interest in it for a long time. I once played the entire Orc campaign in one day because I was intrigued by the story.

So far, my favourite Hero would be the Priestress of the Moon. Her Starfall ability is awesome in both the visual effects and damage departments. Used to be the Paladin for his Holy Light ability which could greatly prolong the life of even the lowly Footman. Not to mention his Devotion aura which increases the armor of nearby friendly units.

Favourite unit would have to be Huntress. Glaive bounce like that of the Mutalisks in Starcraft, high damage and the ability to cloak at night are great assets. Not to forget her Sentinel too.

mehmehmeh, blizzard south doesn't exists, it's bizzard, period, but whatever :p
next thing you might wait for about starcraft is a movie, seems they were seriously thinking about it at the last E3. That's cool, it means that the FF:TSW failure didn't scare everybody.

How does it end? I'm just curious, I couldn't keep myself playing Diablo 2 any further than the second act.

RTS... whatever

D2 ends when you kill diablo, smash his soulstone, then baal kills that old guy. D2x ends when you kill baal.... big suprise (o and tyrael blows up the worldstone because hes having his period).

Hm, good thing I got bored of Diablo 2 before it was too late. Killing every evil guy doesn't sound like a very surprising ending.

Starcraft 2 is definitely going to come out. Its just a matter of time. I say this because I don't think Blizzard wants to leave the story hanging just like that. Blizzard won't just end the story with the bad guys (or in this case, bad girl) winning.

As for Diablo 3, I think you can say that there will be none. The story ended already. Diablo and his brothers all died. Thanks to yours truly. So, the evil invasion stopped there.:) Unless they want say that the brothers somehow managed to resurrect themselves. Maybe it'll be in the future. No more swords and magics. Just pure guns, bullets and rockets!!!:p

i might have a bad memory but i don't remember killing dugale... all i remember is Alexei dieing from Samir Duran. So the Dark Protoss are still there, right? I hear all this buzz about zerg "assimilating" some of the protoss and that in hypothetical Starcraft 2's people are predicting stuff like toss/zerg hybrids races and Xel Naga race... if anyone could refresh me on this.. i thought the Xel Naga were killed by the Zerg long ago. I knew the Zerg wanted to assimilate the Protoss, but i never thought that they did. Once again, my apologies if i don't make sense, haven't played campaign in a long time.
Title: Warcraft 3 (kicks arse)
Post by: demon442 on August 24, 2002, 11:43:48 pm
Alright, i'll break it down.

Dugalle kill himself shortly before the zerg swarm destroyed the surviving fleet.  Samir is an agent of the Xel'Naga.  The dark protoss are still arround, just in fewer numbers.  In a secret mission Zeretul finds that Duran is making protoss\zerg hybrids, saying that is was destiny and implying that the hybrids were what the Xel'Naga origonally set out to create.  Of course there will be hybrids on SC2, Xel'Naga i dont know.  The Xel'Naga appeared to hav been killed by the zerg, but you dont think that such an advanced race would leave there entire armada in orbit over Zerus(origonal zerg homeworld), do you?  The Zerg never assimilated the protoss, when both overminds died that directive was replaced with Kerrigans survival\victory.

I guess that's a typo :p
For the Xel'Naga to appear in SC2, I'm pretty sure it won't happen. The SC/BW war has expended on many systems, even earth got involved, so where are the little creators hiding? plus when you see the size of their units ( there's many derelicts in some protoss missions, like that giant robot ), bah, I doubt they would look cool ingame ( plus blizzard never gave a damn about scaling the units right ingame, so no hope of having a thing like that huge robot at the end of Firestorm )
I don't see anything wrong with SC ending with the bad guys, btw, it's nothing definitive, and I hate the " the nice guys always win" thing.

The Xel'Naga were killed by the Zerg iirc...
I think Duran is with something else...

1 last annoying question; did Duran "become something more" during the last Zerg BW mission (so i can go back and play it for myself) ?
Title: Warcraft 3 (kicks arse)
Post by: Ace on August 25, 2002, 02:41:07 pm
No, there's a secret mission where Duran reveals himself as to being more then a mere puppet of Kerrigan.

From his dialogue, I'm assuming he's something far worse then the Xel'Naga ever were.

SC1 sold very well, of course they'll be another one. Remember, Raynor was never defeated and remember the ending movie where Kerrigen senses something just around the corner :D.
