Post by: Nico on August 23, 2002, 12:47:01 pm
Yeah, they've finally upgraded my internet prog to AOL7, so I can finally have internet back on my PC :D
Only pb, for some reason, I can only use the AOL explorer, not IE. It already happened to me and I fixed it, I know it's some kind of setup pb, but I can't remember what. Could someone help me?
pleaaaaaaaaaaaaaze!!!!

Your useage of AOL will surely lead to your online downfall...struck down by slow internet speeds, busy signals, annoying little children on chatroom, and spyware.

"I guess AOL is better in France"
AMERICA on line!!! :wtf:

anyway see if you're parental settings are all set to there highest positions, IE can bypass AOLs parental controls so AOL just doesn't let IE use it's conection if the user has any of the blocks set

[AOLRANT]
Aol are overcharging money grabbers, they pay no vat, yet(!), they charge £35 quid a month for broadband compared to the average £30 that companies who do pay tax charge. They hate it if you use non-Aol software. They hate it when you dont go on a AOL site.[/AOLRANT]

is AOL explorer some ploy to make you browse the interest only using AOL software?

Venom... I feel for you.

In Crapsville, FL, we do not have anything else but AOL either. Unless you want to pay $100 for a satelite guy to hook it up to DirecTV, and another 100 a month for service...

Unfortunatly, its gone international, and is now, i fear, unstopable.  In less than a year farmers in ethiopia will be prevented from planting seeds becuase the name of the plant has an X in it.

That's really freaky!

Here in Ireland I have the choice of a half dozen free ISP's, another half dozen subscription ISP's and about 4 different broadband capable ISP's. The computer market here is thriving though. I can freely spit on AOL CD's and trash them without a second thought, other than the ridiculous amount of resources they waste sending CD's out to people.

I also actively tell anyone new to the internet that AOL is crap.
The battle continues.

Nope, WB is owned by the AOL-Time Warner conglomerate. There was one artivle I read, it was a humor article about when Ted Williams in de-thawed, it had something like AOL-Time Warner-Enron-Martha Stewart-Arthur Andersen Media Conglomerate. Really funny article. But anyway...

I used to use AOHell. Then I switched to the $10 a month local service and had my connection speed increase by 50%.

try throwing one... no matter how hard i try they always start out horizontal, but end up vertical

CP, what's the mathematical explanation for this?

you could make a long string of them, like find a piece of conduit (probably half inch or even 3/4 inch) and thread them on, then like grind them into some weapon or somethind ;7

Frisbees stay level (usually) because of the ridge along the edge - it traps a pocket of air underneath the frisbee, and when the frisbee tilts in any given direction, air escapes from that side and "pulls" that side down, thus maintaining balance.

I think. :nervous:

Really? For me they always land horizontally unless I specifically throw them at a vertical or near-vertical angle. I'm no physicist, but I think Sandwich got it about right (for the horizontal case): since objects have a tendency to maintain the position closest to the equilibrium position, and banking in either direction would displace some air, which would require an additional force, they retain their orientation.

I've got none. Too bad they don't come to here, Finland. :p

Otherwise I'd have a lots of free CD's, which can be used for many things. It might be nice to try to heat them up with gas fire at school or something like that. :D

And they come in newspapers. And magazines. And people throw them at you on the streets. The damn things are everywhere... If they were bricks, I'd have built a house already. Then again, if they were bricks I'd probably be dead or with severe head trauma by now.

This one's not exactly mathematical, but I think when you throw the frisbee it's tilted just enough for it to be easier for air friction/wind to push on one side more than the other, imbalancing it.
Normally, the frisbee would stay in the air and slightly autocorrect as it tried to follow the path of least resistance...it would stay alof because it would have to displace air, and it doesn't have enough mass to do it all at once because it's spread out over a large area.

Now to insert some technobabble:drevil:
;)

Here's some technobabble:

Frisbees™ have a slightly thicker bulge around the circumference (not unlike yours truly); this gives them increased angular momentum (like a gyroscope) which helps to keep them level.

Also, since they are vaguely airfoil shaped, Bernoulli's law gives them some lift as the airflow above has a lower pressure.

AOL™ lack the outer bulge (so they lack stability) and are flat (so the airflow across the surfaces becomes turbulent almost immediately).

BTW™ I am making this up.  I have no idea if it's true or not
