So I just restarted the main FS2 campaign on FSO and was reminded of my failed "explanation" regarding Captain/Lieutenant Loukakis as soon as I started.
And I just noticed something. When playing Retail, Loukakis introduces himself as a Lieutenant in the first CB then as Captain in Surrender Belisarius
But in FSO, he introduces himself as a Captain. Basically his "Captain Loukakis" line is spliced into the audio.
Why make the correction? I know FSO is all about improving FreeSpace, but I'm torn about this. Part of me is glad this glaring plot inconsistency has been corrected, but another just...feels this is wrong. It's hard to explain, but changing actual spoken lines changes the experience.
Also, if this is going to be corrected, why not correct the glaring "Nostos" typo later in the campaign?
Here's screenshots for comparison:

Huh there's a difference between retail and MVPs? I only knew that the back grounds got changed and outright errors fixed. I probably wouldn't have noticed with the localized version anyway.

...er...he got promoted very quickly? :p

Yeah, but in this case, we go from Loukakis going from Lt. to Capt. in Retail to just being a Captain right at the beginning in MVP's
So yeah, it fixes a huge plot inconsistency, but it still modifies the game's "lore" in a way :P
Anyway, in Retail, I guess Loukakis' father must be on the Security Council or is an Admiral somewhere in order to get THAT kind of preferential treatment. Man is the GTVA corrupt :pimp:

Who knows maybe he's got special skills like defeating NTF fighters and Maras in hand-to-ship combat? :D
