Just got home from an outdoor rave, and it got me wondering, who all here goes raving?
Note: This is not meant to encourage drug and alchohol use by underage kids while camping. ;)
-
:wtf: You mean like a mentally insane person might? What did you rave about? :D
I could be said to rave at all times, mentally speaking. :D
-
Er...... it's evident CP doesn't.
-
Well, i do enjoy a bit of dance music from time to time. Haven't actually been out clubbing yet, u need to be 18 for pretty much everywhere. :sigh:
I did however venture into the dance tent a few times when i was at T in the Park (scottish music festival), where i saw Layo and Bushwaka, and Groove armada. The dance tent was pretty cool, absolutly huge, about 80 meters long. Quite dark inside, but very loud, with some light displays and a few big screens on the DJ's stage.
...I also the Chemical brothers on the main stage on the sunday night. I was in the front section of the croud, and they were really good. The set was about 1 hour 30 mins, all their best songs from the current album and the older ones, plus a big light show... and the Basement Jaxx played the NME stage on saturday night. I stated off watching Oasis, but i didnt really like them, so i left my friends and went to see the Jaxxs. Great decision. The croud were well up for it, the mixing and visuals were great, live vocals, plus they had Rio De Janero style carnaval dancers for a few of their songs (they have quite a latin sound).
On summer i hope to go to Ibiza.

I've never raved about raves. I don't like the music. But still, to each his own...
This is not meant to encourage drug and alchohol use...[/b]
Does this imply that you did anyway? ;7 :D :p
-
Unfortunately i've never sampled the "unique" atmosphere - i've always been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
Do most nights down the students' union though - minus the hard drugs I guess its the same (except they play no electronica at all...just crappy cheese and garage)

Ah, the life that awaits me in less than a month... ;)
But hey - I like electronica, and I wouldn't class it alongside rave music just because it's called IDM.
-
well..I view what was affectionately termed "rave" music as an uncontrolled form of the more euphoric stuff I enjoy most.
One tip: Don't buy bottled beer, its a ripoff!
-
I like the more ambient and complex electronic stuff.
And get on ICQ, biatch. Your PM box is full.
-
Rave=drugs=bad
:no::D

Depends which drugs. :thepimp:

Oh, wisdom.

I don't dance. I just don't like to dance, it's just all moving in a funny way to what you think is the flow of the music, however most of the time people get it wrong. Drugs, I don't do drugs nor ever want to do them. Seeing sounds and hearing colors so I can screw up my DNA and brain cells just doesn't seem fun to me. And knocking up some stoned dirty slut afterwards does has some sort of turn off to it I don't know what yet. Maybe her preaching to the toilet might be it.

Well, I just got loaded.... friends did E tho.
It was middle of frikkin' nowhere, too....

Ecstacy? Great... releases all your happiness hormones all at once so you can never be happy again. Sounds like fun. :doubt:

So if you know the effects of drugs, why do you give blatantly false information? E does not make it so 'you can never be happy again.'
Sheesh....
-
The government really does manage to brainwash a lot of people
Read this: MDMA FAQ (www.erowid.org/chemicals/mdma/mdma_faq.shtml)
Do you know that weed was made illegal in the states initally because cotton farmers saw the hemp industry as a serious competitor and not because of cannibis resin's 'thereputic' qualities.
BTW before you think I'm endorsing this stuff, I don't do any drugs. I have a hard enough time handling reality as is.
-
so...uh...what exactly is a "rave?" :p
Why would anyone want extreme happiness in the first place anyway? :D
I pride myself on being demented WITHOUT the use of mind-altering drugs.
You are not alone there... ;7

A rave is basically an all-night dance party with techno music.
I'm surprised so few people here go raving.
-
Like the music, go to as many as I can(thats not that many...).
NOTE: I prefer trance\ambient to house\D&B. Its less chaotic and more relaxed.
-
[sings]Keep on rockin in the free world![/sings]
*busts out the air guitar*
Hmm? What? Raves? Couldnt stand one probably...
I like techno, but it would drive me insane after a while...
-
The rave scene died in England in the mid 90's, just go clubbing instead, its inside, warmer, less muddy and less chance of being buggered by the Pigs.
As for Ecstacy mucking you up, i dont do any drugs at all but me mates do. Its become such a habit for them that they have a **** time unless they are off their head on the stuff. As a fan of the music genres i feel it would be a bit depressing to not enjoy the clubbing for the atmosphere and the said music.
-
"What do you mean computer games affect children? If they did, we'd all be running around in dark rooms eating pills and listening to repetive music."
-
I go to rave party's.....:D
It's cool !
All i do is drinking and smoking.
-
If only they played rock or similar instead of dance music or trance.... I know people enjoy that kind of thing but I just can't cope with that kind of music. It's way to repepitive and ends up giving me a headache. The day they start playing RATM at clubs is the day I become a clubber. Till then? No thanks :)

Er, they do play Rage at clubs... you just have to go to the right clubs.
-
Find me one in Worthing and I'll send you large sums of cash money...
-
Find me a pure trance club anywhere in the UK and i'll....be a very happy man.
Normally I have to settle for putting my own music on at volcanic volumes, clubs cost too much for a student like me and as Mr.Carrot said, raves are hard to come by in the UK.
Personally, I like smoking (tobacco) and drinking when i'm going out.
Cannabis can have adverse effects (I start seeing at 3 frames a second and it usually accentuates my hangover)
E's and harder stuff I don't touch - the euphoric feeling you get off an E tab I get when i'm pissed enough anyway! plus the fact the three latter options cost an arm and a leg. literally if you've got an unpleasant dealer :p

I see now; I thought it was something where you got yourself really drunk and then started "raving." :p
I'm surprised so few people here go raving.
hey, I hardly ever go out anywhere. :D

Hehe, that joke is lost on most people Pera, I keep having to point out the Pac man link :)

Send me the large sums of cash money and I'll open a club that plays the kind of music you want. :D
-
I'd rather go to something like Snow Jam....
And I missed that in Halifax and Vancouver
I wanted to see 54-40 and Jimmy Eat World...
-
yeah i think raves are gret me and girl went to she poped a pill and went boom,
istayed away from those drugs of course
it was nice to dance and have fun but i hate drugs
-
weeelll, i think i may have only gone to one rave in my life... but i know a lot of people that like travel out of state to go to 'big' raves :D
i just didn't like the atmosphere... those teens with those laser things that they wave around in their hands and all... and all the 'bangers' as they call them :D
i dunno... i heard there's a lot of drugs that get around in raves and such
-
I'm too frikkin old. I'd probably have a stroke or something.
*digs around for Houses of the Holy LP*
-
Just got back from the Reading Festival and saw the Prodigy on the main stage, something like 50'000 people, now that's what i call a rave (http://www.randomsnacks.org/board/images/smilies/monkeedance.gif)
-
were they as good as in the old days?
A friend of mine went the whole time...apparently the trick is to eat biscuits for all 4 days as to avoid the port-a-loo complex :p
I'm sure any kind of social gathering is great provided there are like minded people and no antagonists dragged along just for the sake of it.
Mind you...i'm starting to think nobody really likes most "mainstream" music these days - its quite funny watching everyone swaying lethargically to some rap rubbish and then go nuts when they put Ian van Dahl on or something! ;)
-
The only thing i ever used related t drugs was smoking weed. I still do it like once every 4 months or so then i had enough. But not weed at party's or so, then i only drink and smoke tabacco.
A good thing to don't get a hangover is to take a beer next morning:D

:wtf: but its not really a rave without dance music. If you want to go somewhere where they play RATM, or any rock music, then you might as well see a live band. Whats the point in going somewhere they just play rock records you've already heard? Atleast you can mix dance music, so the DJ has some input.
Not that i dont like rock music. I go to as many concerts as I can (which isnt many, not loads of bands come this far north :sigh: )
