Title: MediaVPs 4.1.x Discussion Thread
Post by: mjn.mixael on February 17, 2020, 09:37:10 am
Starts here...

(Starting at 4.1.1 because Knossos ate 4.1.0.. but that issue seems to be fixed now.)

A new release already? Wow. It's only been what, four months, since the previous one? Was there any reason for it? :)

Anyways, downloading now.

Many new models were made as well as new cool weapons. With Knossos making mod distribution so easy, I see no reason to wait arbitrary lengths of time to provide updates.

Thank you in advance for the amazing dedication. However, cannot run it yet. Patched via Knossos. Gives me "I couldn't find an executable. Aborted." error message, when trying to run. Does anyone have an easy fix or an easy way to revert back to 4.0 ??

Make sure you are updated to Knossos 14.0 and not 13.3.

https://github.com/ngld/knossos/releases/tag/v0.14.0-rc.3

Now it's 14.0 and the message is "No executable was found for this mod." Updated via "update-0.14.0.exe". Does launch retail however.

Knossos -> Settings -> check the Show Builds checkbox
Knossos -> Settings -> Set your stability to nightlies

Find the mod SCP in the Explore tab. It probably needs to be updated. Do that and see if you can launch after that.

Resolved. Thank you. Back to FreeSpace after 8 years. It's been a blast.

I'm aware that there are some issues regarding the new Vasudan turrets still appearing green instead of yellow. This will be fixed in an upcoming patch.

A few things I've noticed thus-far:

-For some reason, my hud resolution is down... meaning that hud elements are back to the relative size they were back in retail.  I'm not sure if this was intentional or not.
-More of a suggestion... for "The Place of the Chariots", the asteroid field is supposed to be a dense one, but the existing field looks rather sparse.  You may want to consider importing the pre-formed asteroid fields used in SaH... perhaps narrow the size of the auto-generated field and then fill the surrounding space with these.
-During "Lion at the Door", I've noticed that one of the CB-Anims could use a face-lift.  The one showing the Carthage and Dashor jumping out, has the Dashor as the pre-Hi-Poly model.  Something to look into for later releases.
-During the briefing for "Mystery of the Trinity", the briefing icon for "unknown", which is supposed to look like a bit of nebula, looks like an Orion.

I haven't gotten to the "Trinity" mission itself yet.  I may come up with more later.

Your resolution is probably fine, Those are the new high-res HUD elements, they are bigger and much easier to see.  They were added a one or two versions ago.

Unless you mean the HUD is small again. . In that case disregard my previous statement.

The message box still looks kinda too small to be comfortably used, The E. Seems to utilise a font that's different to the rest of the HUD and a tad smaller...
Actually, is this added by yourself, or that's from MediaVPs?

Eh, to be fair with the latest model creation rush I'm kinda expecting for MjnMixael to just wait until a nuOrion comes by and then re-render the CBAnim. Kill two birds with one stone, right?

FSBlue, in that case. I don't feel it is a real problem there.

Not sure if this is a mediavps problem or a Knossos problem or something else entirely, but this only started once I updated the Mediavps: apparently, if I stay in the techroom too long, the background music cuts out and never restarts (unless I restart the entire game). Wierd.
Title: Re: MediaVPs 4.1.x Discussion Thread
Post by: mjn.mixael on February 18, 2020, 03:18:02 pm
That sounds like an SCP problem. There's no way Knossos could cause that and I'm pretty sure the MediaVPs doesn't have anything special that messes with music.

Oh it was this!
Random Q without going to the slightest effort to check, sorry: have primaries been given a lifetime and range such that they play their impact animation when dying, rather than just winking out? One of the best aesthetic changes to the game and it only takes some table tweaks.

Just got the 4.1.2 update but ran into a bit of a problem. The "partially installed" error came up. Tried verifying file integrity but no cigar. Launched the game but it was back to retail graphics. I have a debug if you want to look at it

I forgot to mention: Aftermath:Reboot also got the MVP4.1.2 treatment and suffered the same "partially installed" bug. Not sure if that is connected to the bugged out MVP update before the latest fix. I posted a debug in the Aftermath threads, but I will also stick it in here too

Noticed several issues with the Rahu: Mass is much higher than in retail (2074612224 vs 8251), the eye point of the retail file is gone, and Live Debris models debris-backa00 and debris-backa01 are not marked as part of the debris LOD what is necessary to have them show up on the subsystems' desctruction.

Also I noticed the thruster is disconnected from the model in PCS, but it seems to work ingame. The reason for this appears to be that the main model has an offset of 0.0:-2.122785:25.786194 instead of 0:0:0. While this fixes the thrusters somehow, it breaks the Docking point which is completely disconnected. A minor thing: the model has 2 rahu-body textures.

So I've played through the campaign now, and I've noticed a few things:

-For the first time EVER I managed to destroy the Tiamat.  The Aquitaine took the corvette's last 1% health in a volley as it jumped.
-In "Rebels and Renegades", I managed to save both the Iceni and the Hinton without resorting to cheats... and I'm not talking about the usual cheats, I mean more of a James T. Kirk, Kobiashi Maru type of cheat.
-While playing "Monster in the Mist", I find that you get targeted WAY too quickly.  You might as well not be flying a stealth.

I used Axem's script and custom Lua SEXPs in conjunction with this latest version of MediaVPs. However, as I blow up stuff, Lua errors started crashing FSO (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=94909.msg1893475#msg1893475), saying that createParticle is a nil value and is non-existent whatsoever.

I left a message on that thread, and Axem has yet to respond.

BUG:

Um, the Aeolus can fire it's beam cannons through itself. .

Is that a FOV issue on the turret or just a lack of "check hull" flag? The latter would change behavior vs retail.
Title: Re: MediaVPs 4.1.x Discussion Thread
Post by: Nyctaeus on February 28, 2020, 04:38:16 pm
FOV and every other settings are all copypasted from retail Aeolus. It was capable of firing through itself in the past too. Rakshasa fire her bottom SAAA through the hull from years.

We're trying to make stuff pretty, not different. But in some cases, making things pretty makes everything... Different anyway.

Is it possible to manually add the new MVPS 4.1.23 to Freespace Blue? Freespace Blue is 4.0.0

I'm a manual (not Knossos) user so I can't help you there. :(
If nobody shows up here you could ask on Discord or search the forum by entering something like "mod dependencies" in the forum search of Knossos related topics.

Look at the folder where Knossos installs the stuff, than move the new MVPs into the 4.0 folder and put the 4.0 files elsewhere.

Look at the folder where Knossos installs the stuff, than move the new MVPs into the 4.0 folder and put the 4.0 files elsewhere.

wtf no. That method has the potential to break every mod he downloads that uses 4.0.

The correct way to do this incorrect thing is to edit the mod.json in FS Blue from...

Code: [Select]
                    "id": "MVPS",
                    "version": "~4.0.0",
                    "packages": []

to...

Code: [Select]
                    "id": "MVPS",
                    "version": "~4.1.23",
                    "packages": []

The actual correct method is to post this question on the BP forum and bother them until they update their mod.

Hey, this makes more sense. Yea I know I can break stuff but whatever, it's a game lol. I'll just reverse it.
Pretty sure BP forum knows about the update and that they should update their MVps. Not sure about all the other forums with other mod campaigns tho, some use very old MVps. They should fix it!
Title: Re: MediaVPs 4.1.x Discussion Thread
Post by: Meatball on March 03, 2020, 02:20:00 am
Actually that didn't work. I also tried changing all the MVPS lines in the mod file. The new Hi Poly Hecate didn't load in even after changing all the lines, so it doesn't work.
It did work tho if I replaced all the files in 4.0.0 with 4.1.23. But after a while or a restart BPC complained it didn't have the files, so I had to redo it.

Blue Planet Complete uses its own uparmored version of the Hecate, and it also seems to use a specific version of the Aeolus. You may not be able to see the "normal" Hecate easily outside of FSBlue campaign.

TLDR: Forcing BP to use 4.1.23 didn't work and caused errors juuuust like was warned. For a real fix, the Blue Planet board is over there. ----->
