Title: Vasudan Speak
Post by: Iain Baker on November 08, 2020, 02:07:51 pm

Hi All!

I’m working on a Vasudan focused campaign and I would like to make the Vasudan speech patterns a little more distinct from that of us Humans. Is there a ‘Vasudan Speak reference bible’ or something similar anywhere? I hear there was a ARG called Phoenix which may have had something like this but I haven’t be able to find any details about it. Anyone have any more info or a link I can look at?

I hear Blaise Russel  / Lt. D may have created something like this for his Vasudan focused campaigns such as Shrouding The Light, but, in truth, I’m going off old second or third hand info. If anyone knows more please let me know.

Sa Vasuda!

You could take a look at Scroll of Ataka- Atka-.... ... Scrolls Part 1, to get a good idea of what they could be like. Of course, it's all fanon speculation but I think it's an interesting perspective nonetheless.

I think someone went to the trouble of making up a full Vasudan alphabet for ST:R, so that's probably floating around somewhere, if you want to reference it. But really, canon Vasudan speech isn't all that different from normal human speech; they just tend to be a little more stiff and formal in their delivery. Scroll (and a handful of places in canon, like Operation Templar) emphasizes the honor-related aspects of their culture, so they come off sounding like Klingons.

Would this (http://holonet.hard-light.net/vasudan_wotd.php) be useful?

It's worth saying that the above mentioned campaign mixes Vasudan speech as perceived from the perspective of a Terran with more "regular" Vasudan speech between individuals of the same species. The player's Terran but gets stay onboard a Typhon destroyer for a while.

In case you're wondering, it's The Spirit of Ptah (https://www.hard-light.net/forums/index.php?topic=97011.0).  :)

You may want to use these if you're making any Vasudan audio files:

Here is all we know about canonical Vasudan speech:

Was this language really developed and we just don't have access to most of it, or merely some very tiny parts of it were developed, enough to make the game, etc.?

It was developed to the extent that a lot of Vasudan vocabulary was created, but we don't know how much.  It was more than a tiny part, but probably much less than other created languages (e.g. Klingon).

We know that there were extra vocabulary words beyond that simple email; reference the Vasudan countdown from 10 to 1 in "A Flaming Sword".  But we also know that English was used occasionally; CP5670 found "you're a thief" in one of the Vasudan failure debriefings.
