138 supposed 'members' have never made a post to the HL boards. Also 318 more members have not made a post this year.
This is our of a total 951 members so almost half of this comunity is not active.
-
1/3rd
I keep saying they should delete the inactives but no-one ever listens.
-
138 + 318 = 456 = 48% of 951
The 318 have posted, just not his year.

:( :( :(
(not to go off topic but why were those taken anyways?)
-
One reason I can think of is that some of them can`t remember there passwords:wtf: It`s as good as any explanation I guess, or erm:nervous:
-
No, they register but never get around to doing anything and loose interest.
-
Or they forgot the URL.
-
i will bring this up in the staff forum.
-
Or the first is an error-riddle one where they send the password (using the old made-up password system) to a email account which was mine minus one of the T's.....
-
Or they register because they have nothing better to do.
-
my friend registered but doesn't post because he "forgets" or "doesn't have anything to say"
-
Keep in mind that going through and clearing every account that's not posted or not posted in the last year is a fair bit of trawling to do...
-
no no thunder, have one of your lackys do it. you know like styxx or uh Sandwhich. ;)
-
They're their own lackys - not mine (heh, though I wish ;)) but I was just pointing it out, it's a fair bit of work for anyone on a 56K... like me ;)

Actually, it would be fairly easy via a well-crafted SQL command. Something along the lines of:
DELETE * FROM users WHERE users.postcount='0' AND
users.registered_date < '{unix timestamp equivalent of, say, Sept 1, 2001}'
...or something like that - Styxx will probably :headz: me for that makeshift code. :p
Of course, all the relevant tables will have to be checked and re-checked for cross-references, and it's the kind of thing that should be thoroughly tested on a testbed vB copy at home. But it could be done. :D

yeah, I thinks thats more like it, 3dap.com/hlp is a relly big URL
-
Yeah, I think that if you haven't made a post for year you should be deleted...
I don't think that anyone will be gone for year and then coming back.
-
You might want to check on the last time a 'unactive user' sent a private message before deleting them.

Why do you think my post count is so low? and yet Ive been here one month after this place opened... Ive been gone for at least a year before... If this makes any sense, well, you think on a level different from me :p
wait, I thought this place was 2 years old. oops then forget what I said up there :D

Well, I registered in october 2001, and until february 2002 my post count was... 12 posts or so. I read the more interesting threads, but rarely replied, for.... well, mostly cuz I either didn't bother, or had nothing to say that hadn't been said already.
And now... well, you can see.
On a totally different note, WHY WAS :headz: AND :snipe: lost!!!!????

Actually, that's pretty close to it, except for the lack of a proper call to "to_date". ;)
And I don't want to delete all that people, what did they do wrong? It's so nice to see such a high number of registered people on the forum information panel...
:D

Well, I've been convinced to leave them with us (it didn't take much... :p), but this brings up another idea: how about we email them with reminders about their registration and stuff - just to say "Hey, we care."

... and see how many of those mails bounce
FYI My post count was pretty low for my first six months here (and I was a lurker for a few months prior to registering). I didn't have much to say until the source code was released. Now (to quote Shrek) "It's getting him to shut up that's the trick" :p

Makes sense.

I'd kick anyone who hadn't posted at all in a year and no new messages in 6 months! If you're THAT uninterested in anything then why be here? Unless your just 100% Voyuer(SP?)...
Hey what are YOU looking at? :wtf:
-
Well they might be like me, a fly on the wall. I just post when I think I got something to say, or ask. It also might be that they want to ask a question but they have to register to do that. So they just register and ask then look a few days later and see what the answers are and leave.

These people take up usernames that others could use.
Hotsnoj! You're a Hardwar fan?!?
-
Ya. Are you one too? Well here is the main Hardwar forum out there. Captain Zedo (http://pub55.ezboard.com/bhardwarbulletinboard55546)

It`s as good as any explanation I guess, or erm
Here's another explanation: perhaps all of us "regulars" have 30 usernames each but nobody wants to tell anyone else about that. :D
Yeah, I think that if you haven't made a post for year you should be deleted...
I don't think that anyone will be gone for year and then coming back.
Only problem is that this might include some of the less active admins. :p :D
-
Guys, it's a moot point. I don't think there's any chance of us trimming member registrations, and even if we did, it would be limited to members who have never made a post. Which nicely excludes that certain admin, since he's is precisely as far away from having never posted as they get. :D
But we aren't anyways, so drop it, m'kay? :D
